It is the bread that makes the best garlic bread. Use a French baguette.

1 head garlic
1/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 clove garlic, minced
1 pinch Lemon Pepper seasoning
sea salt, to taste
1/2 tablespoon fresh parsley, minced
1 French baguette

Directions:

Preheat you oven to 400 F.

Wrap the head of garlic up in heavy aluminum foil and bake for about 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. The cloves should be very soft.

Once you can handle the cloves, squeeze the garlic out of the cloves and into a small bowl. Add the softened butter, minced garlic, lemon pepper and salt and mix until well blended. Add parsley and blend.

Cut the bread in half lengthwise and brush the butter on both sides, saving just a little to spread on top. Place the two halves together and brush the last little bit along the length of the bread.

Wrap tightly in foil and place in the oven for about 10 minutes. For a crustier surface open foil and cook for a few more minutes.

Or a real quick one that is great... (yep.. mayo, not butter) - and adjust the ingredients as necessary until the mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese and garlic powder mixture is a paste-like consistency.)

2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 (1 pound) loaf Italian bread

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat the broiler.
In a medium bowl, mix the mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese and garlic powder until thick.
Slice the Italian bread in half lengthwise and spread each half with mayonnaise mixture. Place halves on a medium baking sheet.
Broil 2 to 5 minutes, checking frequently, until mixture is bubbling and golden brown.

Melt a half stick of butter and add to 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil. Add crushed garlic and chopped basil. Allow to sit for at least 10 minutes so the flavors can mingle together. Slice the best french bread you could find lengthwise, so you have two halves, or cut out individual slices, and brush each with the mixture. Wrap it up in foil and broil at around 400F. Keep an eye on it, perfectly done to burned happens very quickly

Cut a french stick in half, then half again. Mix fresh diced Garlic with a good quality butter, then spread onto the bread. Sprinkle some Oregano and a bit of Cheese on top, then bung it in an oven at 180 until it's a nice golden colour!! Enjoy!!

I have tried a lot on my own, and still like the frozen kind from the grocery store.
But if I was making my own, I like it with a little bit of cheese on it.

Use a good loaf of Italian Bread. Slice horizontal. Soften some butter and mix that with some crushed garlic cloves. Spread on bread and then sprinkle with mozarella or parmesan cheese and some italian seasoning. Pop it in the oven at 350 until cheese melts or just put it in the boiler for a few minutes.

Mix crushed garlic, herbs (preferably fresh parsley, thyme, sage, rosemary or as you wish) and good butter. Slice a really fresh french stick diagonally all the way along but not right through. Place a goodly dollop of the butter in each cut, wrap in foil and put in a hot oven for 10 minutes.

wrap in foil and put in oven for 20 min

buy a crustie loaf fresh baked and using butter and garlic either fresh or granules mix together with some parsley and butter on the sliced bread and put in oven at high temp and give it about 5 minutes if its not as crispy as you like it keep in for a few more minutes.
If you prefer baguettes just slice and butter that.
I love Tescos garlic slices in the freezer department and I know its easy to make my own but its just handy having it in the freezer.
Hope you enjoy making your own its sooo easy.

Like mine baked in the oven with melted butter. You can use olive oil in a skillet and saute fresh or minced garlic, add to melted butter then brush on bread prior to baking. I also like adding cheese and fresh herbs. Good luck
