When I heard this, I was about to cry. My parents were both born in Iran, so I'm muslim by my parents...but I don't believe in any of their rules or government. So please, no rude comments.
Here's the story:
A few days ago, a women tried sueing her husband. He had been abusing her, for who knows what reason. They went to court, and the court ruled in favor of the husband. They said that the the Quran states that a man can hit his wife whenever and however he wants. When I heard this, I almost cried. A women is allowed to get killed by his husband, and he doesn't even get put in JAIL! or charged of anything!
What do you think of this?

I take it that was in Iran? The problem with religion is that every religious person takes their religion too seriously at some point. Everyone needs to remember that it's just a book. It was not written by "God" or any other higher being. It was written by man for man. More wars have been started because of religion than for any other reason. All because of a book.

I read this and I cried as well. My sister had a friend whose husband sent her and her daughters back to the Middle East. His wife was a Polish girl and his son and daughters had been raised with the belief that women were not worth anything except as chattle. Thus the girls and the mother were treated badly by ALL the men in the family. The Polish girl passed away and the girls ended up with arranged marriages. No love, No caring. SO SO sad. I cannot believe that GOD wanted anyone to be treated like that. No man should physically hurt a woman and for that matter no person should physically OR MENTALLY hurt another human being.
I believe that some religions tend to use their own interpretations to make what they are doing right. If people want to interpret the Quran (as people do the Bible) to suit their needs, we have to recognize that and realize that it isn't the way all people of that particular religion believe.

Well there's two sides to this...the tradition and cultural aspect, and the western way of looking at things.
The traditional muslim text my say that beating, or even killing your wife is acceptable so long as it meats certain conditions. But i'm not sure, i don't study middle eastern texts. So going by what I do know, if this had taken place in a theocracy somewhere in the middle east, it may be acceptable.
Now by western standards where men and women are "equal" this obviously can't happen. The west has a more liberal view of the law when it comes to cases like these (where one partner abuses another).
So after considering both facts you have to ask yourself which side is the more correct and ligitimate? Muslim Tradition, or Western Law? I'd say it's a matter of circumstance.
Personally, i'm not a fan of ANY kind of abuse.

See this is why people do not like Muslims very much. In my family if a man hit or beat his wife, the whole family comes after the man who hit or killed the wife and we throw in prison, but this is only if we do not beat the tar out of him or kill him first. See Muslim men are not taught to have respect for their women, and that is a real shame. Someone needs to change all of that if the Muslims want their religion to continue on.

That is just one of many serious flaws in the medieval moral belief system of the Extremist Muslims. They haven't allowed the religion to evolve to reflect the more enlightened view of living for hundreds of years. They also believe that God appreciates having people murdered in his name???? How can anyone defend such people?
The Christian church is also extremely slow to allow evolution of doctrine, but after 300 years and several space trips around the earth, they finally forgave Galileo for teaching that the earth wasn't flat and the center of the universe. They also finally recognized that women are equal human beings, not some sub-class and no longer burn them at the stake for being witches. Some ex-husbands might argue that that is not an improvement. LOL

in Iran it is legal for a man to have sex with an animal also,as long as it's not a male animal.so why does anyone expect a country that permits that to have any laws concerning equality between the sexes?in most of the middle east women are not people.they are property.and Islam is suppose to be the most peace loving religion out there?
i think instead of spending so much time on violence the entire middle east needs to join the 21st century and get a life.

It's horrible. Theocracy is not a good form of government. I wish you and your friends and family the best of luck in overthrowing some very bad traditions. I am sure you are not the only ones tired of the barbaric practices of ignorant men. The more vocal you become, the more friends you'll find. I know you are the new majority and will help bring about a change for your country. Good luck.

Under Shari'ah, women are property, and as such do not have standing to file complaints. The decision made by the Sharī‘ah court is the only acceptable decision, if one adheres to the Q'ran.
This is just another example of the forced disrespect of people, that is inherent within the Q'ran.

Actually, when anyone is capable of THINKING (pretty rare these days, actually), they realise that YOUR religion is what YOU choose to beleive in. Sure, other people can influence your choice, but in the end, the choice is yours. So if you don't beleive in the muslim theology, you are obviously not a muslim. As for your story, I never did trust muslims. Your story doesn't surprise me in any way, though I do feel sorry for the abused woman.

I say if all women would run, not walk away from this false doctrine, every man left would be the last of his line and viola, no more muslims.
But, the bible tells me that this will not happen, at least the way I wrote in anyway.
Muslims and terrorist activity will not end until the end of times. It is written that these wild men whose hand will be against all other men, will remain until the end.
It sounds as though your eyes are open to the foolishness of this. May GOD bless you!
