Modernism was a heresy denounced by Christians in the late 19th century, yet Christians have fallen prey to it in the 20th and 21th cntury.
Many Christians have accepted birth control, in vitro-fertilization, homosexuality, divorce, relativism, and new age ideas. No Christian would have done this before the 20th century.
Protestantism in particular has caved in and to these evils that offend and goes against the will of God.
How many agree?

ecucomboy: invitro-fertilization is a serious sin. Life can only be created through the natural act. It goes against natural law.

arewethereyet: have you seen what churches are doing at a national and worldwide level? Look at Christianity as a whole and not your area.

I totally agree. No one that called themself a Christian considered artificial birth control to be morally acceptable before 1930. Now the Catholic Church is the only one still standing firm about it and other issues of morality. The teachings of the Catholic Church are solid as a rock.

Maybe it's because in this day and age, people are educating themselves and relying less on what others tell them is right or wrong and have started- you may want to sit down- thinking for themselves. Prior to the 20th century, the majority of christians had a sole source of education- the church. Many have decided to live their lives based on trying to be a good person, contributing positively to society, etc., and are less concerned with disliking homosexuals, giving up on having a child, or or staying married to someone that makes them miserable because a religious groups tell them God thinks it's bad to act otherwise. Would you prefer these people become atheists? At least they have a moral foundation underneath them, which in my opinion is the most positive thing to come from an organized religion. There are a lot of so called christians who follow these rules and are terrible people in many other ways. I know, I've met plenty.

If only the church still allowed tithing- then all the homosexuals, divorcees and those using condoms could just pay their sins away ;)

There will always be some who will. Why single out Protestants? Oh yeah, were all heretics, destined for hell. The majority of Christians do not accept these concepts, though there are some denominations that embrace it. The teachings of the Catholic church have also changed over it's history, to fit more in line with modern life. Like not saying mass in Latin, or eating meat on Fridays, etc. The most important thing is to love God and one another. At least that is what my Bible says.

What wrong with in vitro-fertilization ? -By that logic medicine is also wrong because it's not the natural process.-right?
Lady you put the nut it the fruit cake, that's for sure.
What if you couldn't have a little baby and you wanted one.
BOY, ARE YOU A JERK !

You want to live in the dark ages fine, but don't go around telling ppl birth control is wrong, it will just lead to more abortions.

I suggest you read this - it's quite enlightening, be patient with it, and actually read it, without dismissing it out of hand within the first 30 seconds, it might be helpful in illustrating the points that follow (especially the part on Corinthians 6:9): http://www.whosoever.org/bible/ now I'm not saying you have to convert yourself and suddenly accept homosexuality into your life, but it does present food for thought - if you didn't already know what those pages were telling you, then perhaps you need to look at yourself and how you are using your religion, and how you are receiving education and information about it's teachings. Surely we are given free will in order for us to CHOOSE Christianity, and in a sense it's that conscious choice that saves us.

Do you believe the Bible IS the word of God or CONTAINS the word of God? One involves a quite devoted word for word literalism, while the other asks for a more interpretive stance. These two stances can resolve to subtle or more extreme readings on the same subjects. Whatever your view, you then need to ask yourself WHO you get your "interpretation" from. If it's from anybody that isn't you, then you need to question for yourself. I would say it is YOUR discovery of the Bible, rather than someone else's that is important.

"Blind faith" without question, can be a dangerous thing, that in extreme cases can lead to fundamentalism...and lets not get into all the errors on translation found in the King James Version of the Bible which people of the time through ignorance (although through no fault of their own) accepted and followed blindly.

However educated their decision, these Christian have found THEIR faith, which they hold as vital and true to them, as you do yours. I know it must be dificult to accept in others what you see as error, but be mindful that you keep true to what you believe, and offer respect, if not acceptance, to others beliefs as you would wish others who do not share your beliefs to extend to you.

All of the Gods seem to being falling prey to modernism. The smarter we get, the less believe in the myths of the past. We have a long way to go, but boards such as this are improving matters. Keeping the discussion of religion in the closet, is what helped it grow in the first place. Religion is dying fast!

genuine. in addition they believed that the top of the worldwide became into precise around the corner (sound customary?) and cautioned that individuals stay virgins and in straightforward terms marry in the event that they could. The Catholic Church (and different substantial Christianities) have communities of folk who stay communally and don't very own plenty different than in uncomplicated. The Catholic Church not at all throws something away. they'd forget approximately it for some hundred years, yet while that's rediscovered and works for individuals, we use it. for people who don't sense it relatively is the way for them, there are option practices. we are greater of an and/the two Church than an the two/or Church. Catholics (and others) are motivate to hold a preferential decision for the undesirable. to hold and shield political and monetary techniques that income the undesirable and the unvoiced.

I do not agree at all.

Most of the Christians I know do not believe in birth control except where medically necessary, they most certainly do not believe in homosexuality, divorce, relativism or new age ideas.

Perhaps you need to move lol. No one around here believes it.

For the most part most who have accepted the so-called modernism are not truly of The Christian Faith to begin with... even though they may think they are... But not all of what is modern is bad...a difficult subject to define... but. if Christ is always first... and what is taught dose not detract from Christ's teaching... and most important dose not lead against The diety of Jesus The Christ... then if it is modern and can be used for the betterment of mankind... use it.

That is what is called back sliding. It is also knows as letting your spiritual eyes adjust to the darkness of sin, by going with the flow of the world, instead of going against what the flow of the world is doing, and following God. We as Christians are to be the beacon of light for those who are living in the darkness of sin and lead them out, not join them in their sin by acceptance of it..
