He's taught himself to go #2 in the litterbox, but for some reason he thinks he's supposed to urinate on the bed. I'm at work during the day and never catch him in the act so I can't put him in the box as or after he's doing it. Poor little guy thinks he's doing what he's supposed to and I can't seem to teach him otherwise!

I had this problem with all of my cats. They seem to like shitting everywhere but the tray.

I watched my kitty and when I saw he was going to do something, I put him in his tray and stayed with him. If he got back out I put him back in. Also if he did his buisness somewhere else, I put this in the tray and it sorta told the kitten this is where it belongs. It worked anyway lol.

How I trained mine was I locked both of us in the in the room where his litter box was. Every time he crawled out I put him back in. I poured water in the box to show him how the litter works. Keep him in the box. Eventually he will get tired and bored. If he keeps going on your futon, spank him on the bottom; not hard, just enough that he'll stop. Yell at him firmly, or throw a loud object towards him, like a can filled with 10 coins. (Not at him) Eventually he will learn that every time he goes on your futon, he will hear a loud scary noise. Find different way to train him.

Make sure you use the most expensive litter and make sure the litter tray is immaculate and left in the corner of the room. Every time you feed your cat, put her in the litter box, make this habit. Also consider washing the futon to remove all traces of smell of urine, cats have a really strong sense of smell, so even if YOU dont smell it- she will. Get a carpet cleaner and remove any trace of urine from the house. And most importantly, let the cat know when its done wrong.

i feel ur pain trust me it basically like training a puppy what ever you do don't rub it's nose in it or beat it it will only make it afraid of you whenever it goes pick it up in a napkin and put it in it's box u need to watch it all the time and take it at least one an hour to ensure you futon safety. good luck

Every so often take the kitten and put it in the litter box, even if it doesnt want to go. Then eventually he/she will take to it. If you see him/her sniffing about, but him/her in the box, and sometimes just sit him/her in it for no reason, They'll get it evenutally has been my experience. I've trained my cats to go to the door and meow.
