The book seems to be merely a prosy detail of imaginary history, with the Old Testament for a model; followed by a tedious plagiarism of the New Testament. The author labored to give his words and phrases the quaint, old-fashioned sound and structure of our King James's translation of the Scriptures; and the result is a mongrel -- half modern glibness, and half ancient simplicity and gravity. The latter is awkward and constrained; the former natural, but grotesque by the contrast. Whenever he found his speech growing too modern -- which was about every sentence or two -- he ladled in a few such Scriptural phrases as "exceeding sore," "and it came to pass," etc., and made things satisfactory again. "And it came to pass" was his pet. If he had left that out, his Bible would have been only a pamphlet.

Bruschask*, I have a story about the Book of Mormon.
Day in and day out there is always a commercial about the Book of Mormon. The two women sitting at a diner and she asks her friend if she had read anything good lately & she replies, "Yes, it is the Book of Mormon, another testament of Jesus Christ."
If you call this number now, you can get your own free Book of Mormon now at no cost to you!..Bull!! I have heard people downgrade Mormons. I never knew anything about The Church of Latter Day Saints. So I thought I would call the number and get the book just to compare it to the bible. When I called, the representative was very very nice. She asked why I was interested in the book and what was my religion. I told her that I was of the Baptist Faith. Then she proceeded to ask me if I wanted a Mormon neighbor close to my home to bring the book to me personally. I informed her that I would prefer getting the book in the mail and if after reading it I would locate a Mormon neighbor to discuss the book. She said, "Ok, that is fine afterall the book is free. You will receive your book in about 2 to 3 weeks." I said ok. Well, as of this day, I still have not received the book and I called the week after Easter 2003.
Was that commercial false advertisement or was it just a way to get people to welcome Mormons in their home? I am confused.
If there are Mormons out their reading this, please do not take offense, I just want to know why.

"When you are done with highlighting the Book of Mormon... get another highlighter... you will need it for the Bible also. It also contains approved violence, rape, harm, incest, pain, suffering, murder, etc. etc. "

I just wanted to acknowledge that just because the Bible contains passages where they speak of bad acts, A) it doesnt mean they are APPROVED.B) If, in the context, they are approved, it isnt God speaking or C) sometimes God talks about the slaughter of unrighteous, pagan wrongdoers. In that case, it isnt unnecessary murder, its God making an act of justice.

For the better part of 30 years I was repeatedly visited by mormons trying to get me into their cult... It actulay sounds good when they tell of it... untill you start to look at it for yourself... I read all they gave me to read. I listened attentatively to their instruction... I came to the same conculsion as you... it took a few more years for me to come to The Christian Faith... no Books, Bible, or visitors involved...just me and God... Now I read and study and all I read and study confirms ....God's Word to men in The Truth of my Salvation.

If you would like to read of my first day of The Christian Faith you may at:

You are correct in your assessment of the Book of Mormon. It is all fiction, but as P.T. Barnum once said: "There's a sucker born every minute."
