it seems that every thing is way more expensive now compared to, say, 20 years ago. My grandma told me a story that when her dad owned a gas station, he refused to sell gas for a QUARTER!!! Now gas is $3!! So why is stuff so expensive?!

Because any stable economy has to have a fair amount of infflation. If we stll paid 25 cents for gas you have to remember we would still only get paid 10 cents an hour to work at a job.

Some things are more expensive but some things are much cheaper. 20 years ago gas was much cheaper but a 19' color TV cost around $500.00 compared with the $119.00 they are now. A computer with the power of my desktop PC would have cost millions.

You just answered your own question the price of gas is why everything is so high. These damn greedy oil Co. are destroying this country. ever time I go to the store the prices have gone up to pay for fuel prices that our Government want do anything about so that's the Big thing gas and oil.....PS...did i win......did i win....did i win?????

Because your dad used to get paid $5 a day. Houses cost $10000. A loaf of bread was a nickel.
Compare earnings to costs then and now and you will see each of us is actually making MORE.

cost of living...everything goes up as the years go by...but you have think that back then when gas was low so were salaries....people weren't making as much as they do now...

Everything goes up....and so does the standard of living, but they don't increase wages to support it unfortunately..
