Hello Meg ~
I am a Jack Russell Terrier breeder and your question does not have a simple answer. Whoever wrote they are notorious for not getting along with other dogs has NO CLUE as to what he/she is talking about.
There is no real way of knowing if they will get along until you try. It all depends on the personality of your Jack, and the personality of the mini pin. He/she might be submissive and welcome any new family member. However, he/she might be more aggresive and thinks he/she is the ruler of the house and doesn't want any competition for your attention. All dogs are this way.
It's like people, sometimes you like someone, sometimes you don't, but you don't know until you meet them.
You could get your Jack together with other little pups and see how he/she does - but remember it's different when they are actually living in the same house.
If you go ahead with buying the mini pin, try to get the opposite sex of your jack, and get them both neutered/spayed.
When you introduce your new pup, make sure you spend lots of extra quality time with your Jack, so he/she knows that he/she isn't being replaced and is just as important to you as before the new one came in.
I have three Jack Russells - they like some dogs, they don't like others. It's a hard thing to forsee. Good luck to you!

I'm sure that you know by now that Jack Russells can be slightly hyper and have tons of personality. Just like with most dogs you will need to properly introduce the new dog. How does your Jack Russell do with other dogs? Some jack Russells are a little more aggressive than others. Is your dog a male or female? I have found that female dogs in general tend to be a bit more aggressive. Are you getting a puppy or older dog? I have also found most dogs find it easier to adjust to a puppy because they are still the leader. If you have friends that have a small dog take your Jack Russell over to their place and see how your dog does. This will give you some indicator. I have had several small dogs in the past and they all did well together, in fact they were inseparable, you just have to introduce the new dog properly and make sure your dog is not super aggressive before you get the new dog. Good luck!

We have 6 dogs, a Poodle, Yorkshire, Chihuahua, 2 West Highlands and most recently a
Jack Rusell. We got her at 3 mos and she's she's now 8 months. Getting her was a big
mistake, as she's now very aggressive towards all the others, as well as being an incessant, non-stop barker. There are better choices.

Well terriers can be demanding. Have you had a dog before? Puppies are hard. No getting around that. (Thank gosh, they're cute, right.) Potty training takes as long as it takes. Throw a pee/poo party as soon as the puppy goes in the appropriate place. Don't punish mistakes, clean it up and move on. Start reading some books now on puppy life. "Before and After Getting Your Puppy, the Positive Approach to Raising Happy, Healthy, & Well Behaved dog" by Dr. Ian Dunbar ~you could probably find an affordable copy on amazon.

I have a male jack russell and a male beagle. I got them both at the same time when they turned about 6 months old they began to get agressive towards one another. I called to vet and he said because of hormone problems. I got them both neutered and now they get along great! Best Buddies!

I know dogs
I have two
but not jack russels
my neighbor has one and it is a little terrorist
high strung
runs in the street
and into my backyard
my dogs are afraid of it actually
get ready to run a few miles with a jack russel before you might even think he would settle down.

My mother-in-law and a neighbor both had jack russel's and they seemed to get along well with larger and smaller dogs.

Miniature Pincher's can be very feisty and if your Jack is a submissive dog they might get along but I would not take a chance.
