Potassium Argon dating can be used to give a pretty precise age for rocks, based on known physical properties of matter, and these show the oldest rocks known to have an age of about 4.3 billion years.
It is assumed that the earth likely existed for a period of time before the formation of these rocks, but that all trace of the earlier earth was destroyed by cataclysmic forces. The best estimate is that the earth is 4.5 billion years old.

geologists believe its about 4.6 million years old but no one is sure because at one point, the world was a ball of hot lava so all the rocks from back then got melted and you cant really tell how old earth is. sorry...
