Why do people never use the word "also" anymore, and always say "as well?"?

see, why are some people reacting so much to this - "what planet am i on" - - what planet are you on??!!
to me, it seems some people use "as well" when it really doesn't sound right.
p.s. i Do work with snobby people-that is why i am asking this question

I don't know what planet you've been living on, but people use it around me all the time :) Are you sure that people aren't saying it around you?

My guess is that some people use "as well" as a crutch. It sounds much more interesting when people vary their speech and mix-it up, but some people (including myself) get lazy and use the same old tired phrases day in and day out.

Well that's a very absolute statement. I say 'also' quite often... Probably more often than I say 'as well'. So do most of the people around me. Maybe you just associate with people who are a bit too uppity, too GOOD to say 'also'. ;)

It is a word that is out of fashion as well as sounding too simplistic.

I like to replace also with too. I like to sho off my knowledge of spelwing. Just as well I guess.
