i think i am a unique ex-christian in the fact that i still believe there is a god, and that he cares a lot about me, and about people, but i hate christianity, and have basically completely seperated from it. I hate the ignorance, the lack of logic, the pretending, the judgment, and etc, etc...i finally realized one day that i need to start thinking for myself, not believeing what I am "supposed" to believe. it was hard at first, because you have all the stupid condemnation of the whole process. but now, it feels like heaven (no pun intended). it feels great to just think for myself, to discover the world, and to listen to my heart. my heart tells me though, that there is a god, and that he cares deeply. either way, if im right, then great, if im not, then ill be flaming in a fiery pit for eternity! what a barbeque! i can't wait!

My father made me go to church (catholic) 2 times a week, was obsessed by it. I never understood it. My problem started in 1st grade catechism when the teacher made us repeat "Why did God make us? Because he loves us!" It made no sense and I couldn't get a better explanation. My complete conversion came when as a young adult I started reading the teachings of other religions (starting with the Gita). I realized there was nothing special about Christianity and that actually it was more confusing than other religions. I've studied religions ever since then and realize that there are many ways, but the best way is your own. I have no need for any religion at this point.

I'm was born an atheist, as is everyone, taught to be catholic, but came to my senses when I was 12. I realized that every single question I ever had about god caused me to ask a new question. Eventually every person I ever asked would say to me, you just have to believe. Well, no I didn't. What was the point? I started experimenting by doing things like stop communicating with god by not praying, and noticed it made no difference. It's funny to think of all the talking I ever did with god was just me talking to myself. I also had to get over the idea that I would go to hell. You see you can't go somewhere that doesn't exist. I also realized that the bible was just a series of stories designed to control us by teaching us certain morals, which is another name for "christian ethics". It was designed to cause fear. Fear which kept us coming to church to give up our money. Don't believe for a second that microsoft / GE etc are the richest organizations in the world. We just know the financial status of those organiztions because they have to pay taxes. Religions are the richest organizations in the world by far. I would stay up at night and do things like scare myself by staring at doorknobs and imagining someone coming through. No one came through, but I understood the power of belief, and people could talk or scare themselves into any situation. The bottom line to me was that the bible was written 2000 years ago by people who did not have a fraction of the knowledge we have now, and yet I was expected to "just believe" that they new the origin of life because a guy named jesus claimed to be the son of god. Thousands of gods have been created in the minds of humans for thousands of years. I will give it up to the founders of christian faith for one thing though. They were smart enough to put a clause in their version of god that said there is the one and only true god. They figured out what the other creators of belief could not, and their story has won out because of it. My own research has taught me that jesus was not only one with similar beliefs, and many people in his day and age were crucified for their beliefs and rose from the dead three days later. His story became legend though and eventually he was written about. When I say eventually, I mean approximately 40 years after his death. then the story was ammended for hundreds of years into the version you see today. Things were added that had no connection to what the person (if he was a real person) could have taught. Have you ever told some one something and they told another and so on? Then it comes back to you as a completely different story except for a few minor details that still make you recognize it. Now imagine that story getting back to you 40 years later. People will add their own interpretations and the story will change. The point is that the story of jesus is exactly that, a story, created in the minds of people, and written by our fellow humans. I will grant you that the original story may have been inspired by an actual event. That event being the rise and fall of a great leader who inspired the uprising of an oppressed people. That is something that could have happened and does happen even today. The problem I have is when you add the supernatural elements the rising form the dead, the healing, none of which happens today. If it would,
there would be no such thing as an atheist. If there were cameras, t.v. 's, Cell phones, halfway intelligent people 2000 years ago the story of jesus would have never came to be. He would have been another David Koresh, or Charles Manson, who both believed they were the son of a god.

I was raised Christian. Active in my church. Read the Bible and really did believe (the New Testament). However, I don't think I ever believed the Old Testament. Anyway, I continued questioning what was in both testaments until I declared myself Agnostic. Well, I've got no real proof that there is a God or that Jesus is a savior. I kept going and now I'm an Atheist.

No, science can't explain everything, yet...but I'm not going to go believe something unproven.

Hi angry one.
I am don't consider myself an 'ex' anything. I am still a Catholic, that is how I was raised, and even though I am an agnostic now, I haven't converted to any other religion, so I am still a Catholic/Christian.
I was being sarcastic about the animals.
My heart Absolutely BLEEDS for animals. The view I expressed is a common one among the ignorant, and ignorance like that makes me very very angry.'
Again, I was not being serious, I was just expressing a hateful horrible opinion to the extreme.
check out some of the answer I gave to the question: "what is your most heartfelt concern" under my answers to see how I really feel for the animals.

There are no "ex christians" It is not possable for one of the true Christian Faith to "convert" to any thing else or to turn from The Faith in any way. Those of the True Christian Faith Know The Truth.. All of The Faith Belong to God and have a personal relationship with him... That Truth can not be forsaken

There are a great many who thought they were 'christian" for one reason or another... but they were not. Period... They may have done all the whooping and holler'n and thought they were pray'n as they had been told by someone to do... But they did not have the True Faith that comes from the personal relationship with God...

There are far fewer of the Christian Faith than there are people who "think" they are. In fact there are intire congrigations out there who think they are "christian" but they are not..

Now even the mormons are trying to claim they are "christian" even though they taught for generations that "christians" were the enemy and evil and not to be trusted... now they are even trying to claim that the King James Bible is theirs... when for generations it was denounced as false by their leaders.

But even some well known "christian" congrigations have a great percentage of attendees who are not in fact of The Faith. Yet they think they are. And there are a lot of "pastors" who are not saved as well...

You are either truly a christian or you never were a christian in the first place. Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." Luke 9:62
