Ok, my dog swallowed a sock laying around. When i noticed I tried to pull it out of her mouth, but then she swallowed it. She doesn't seem like she's in any pain at all. Do you think she'll poop it out?

I called the vet and she said to wait, and keep track of when she poops. She said if my dog starts throwing up, going diahrea, or not pooping. then we should bring her in. (she's a large breed, part malamute, part shepard)

You should call the vet because they will most likely want to keep an eye on the situation and see how the sock is moving through your dogs body. It could become tangled in vital organs and cause some problems. The vet also might want to do surgery to remove it and not risk any problems of it getting caught. Dogs swallow things all the time sometimes the things come out on their own and somethings need a little bit of help. Just ask your vet they'll be able to make sure things go ok.

Socks in dogs stomach's can be very bad, your talking about potentially Life saving emergency surgery, socks can get stuck causing blockages. If you see a vet ASAP they Can remove the sock with an endoscopic exam and save you thousands of dollars. It is not worth the risk to see if your dog will pass it. If he doesn't pass it you could be looking at a $3-5000 bill for surgery and recovery.

Is you dog a large breed? If so hopefully he or she will poop it out or throw it up. If she is not eating or going to the bathroom you may need to call your vet. My lab is so bad about eating socks...I know that sounds terrible on my part, i have to put my socks directly into the laundry machine. the other day i took them off and one second later he ate it. Dogs are so strange. If you have a small breed contact your vet, it might be good to do so anyway. they sell a paste at pet stores that will make it easy for you dog to pass the object. Good luck!

In most cases, you should consult a veterinarian. They can do xrays over several days, to see if the sock moves through the body and has possibility of being removed naturally, or if it'll clog the intestines and will need surgical removal.

My dog ate the crotch out of my pants once and I was very worried til I saw her trying to poop one day and she was not able to get it out. So I went and looked and sure enough the pants were stuck so I grabbed a towel and slowly pulled it out. I was gross but she never did it again and learned her lesson. I would wait to see if the dog poops it out and if she doesn't in about a week and you notice her tummy is upset or pucking I would take her to the vet.

My dog ate a knee-high once, and he just digested it is all. A sock though, be safe and call a vet.

probably.

Depends on the sock. Is it polyester? or 100% cotton.

Cotton you have no worries.

Polyester...call a vet. The fabric won't digest and may sit in the intestinal tract.

It will cause digestive problems long before it has time to fully break up in your dog's system. Take that pet to the vet!
