OK I need to know what it takes to qualify as a VFW. My idiot daughter in-law thinks she qualifies as a VFW because she was in Iraq after Saddam was captured and we are there helping them establish their new govt.

To me to qualify as a VFW you have to have taken part in an actual war not the restructing of the new govt. The war ended when saddam was captured and all his troops stopped fighting.

Is this correct?

One needs to have served in an overseas area with one of the
branches of our armed forces and there has to have been
a service medal issued for that service when the person was
serving there. If they are there temporarily I think it requires a
certain number of days in the area. It does Not have to involve
actual combat. For instance, servicemen stationed in West
Berlin, Germany before the unification of east and west were
issued the German occupation medal. The same one that started
at the end of WW II during the occupation by American forces.
The eligibility stopped I believe when east and west Germany
unified. I am a life member of the VFW and a past post
commander. I qualified for membership by being stationed in
Berlin during that period. The VFW also stated armed forces
serving in Korea in recent years though not engaged in combat
were eligible and I believe they have now issued a service medal
for such service. I signed my soninlaw up as a VFW member
who is a career army man and did a tour in Korea in recent
years. That was his first overseas assignment but since then
he has served a tour in Iraq. The VFW manual lists places
a serviceman had to have been with the dates to be eligible
for membership. The decoration for this service is supposed
to be entered on a DD-214 of the individual or if they have not
gotten their first DD-214 because of still being on active duty
and not completed their first enlistment yet, military orders
proving they were there during the eligability period.

You're the idiot.

I checked the VFW website (not that tough to find and probably where you should have started, you dumbass) and I would bet she qualifies. If she was awarded the Iraqi Campaign Medal then she's in.

Your daughter-in-law is not a idiot. If you have been to Iraq in a
combat situation, and the war is still ongoing, she is highly qualified to be a member of the VFW(Veterans of Foreign Wars)
she is welcome to be a member. This is correct.

my husband also does not have a combat medal or service ribbon.. and he is a member of the VFW. Members of that august organization came aboard his ship and signed everyone who was interested up on the spot.

He's also a member of the American Legion...

we could face it. once you're in a jam (like the cockpit of a burning airplane) all of us (even the nonbeliever) is going to ask for help. what's it injury? At worse there's no longer likely to be every person there to hearken to (or help) you. And...you by no capacity understand...!?!?!?! it's going to be out little secret.... so a techniques as your best to no longer have confidence? nicely, I understand your best to no longer have confidence. I basically assume you to coach me an analogous understand and best TO have confidence. you have not got connect me in pray, yet I assume you to coach me the curtsy of letting me pray without interruption or grievance (as long as i do no longer take in an unreadable volume of a few time). you do no longer might desire to declare "...a-adult men" on the top. I understand. what's up with the VFW? It became formed at a time whilst all of us became envisioned to have confidence in God, and that looks to have made it into the by capacity of-regulations. situations replace, and as suggested, people who do no longer chosen to have confidence in God yet belong to the corporation besides forget approximately approximately it. it extremely is somebody component, and you will possibly desire to be person adequate to be somebody (or a minimum of it extremely is my opinion for what it extremely is worth). What occurred on the time of the Vietnam conflict. there became a backlash with regard to the media claiming the vets have been a set of (and that i quote) "toddler-killers" that indignant relatively some the vets from the WW II era who had an exaggerated opinion of themselves and their accomplishments. they did no longer like those little ones getting into their little privet club, and Vietnam vets regularly discovered themselves much less then welcome. issues have been uncomfortable, and that i by no capacity joined the VFW hence, whether I qualified (i think I nevertheless do...). at present it extremely is the Vietnam era vets who're the backbone of the corporation. I understand that there has been extra of an attempt to motivate cutting-area vets (from Gulf typhoon and the conflict on Terror) to connect and participate as a results of antiwar backlash and much less then welcome we've been given whilst we've been given residing house 40 years in the past or so. My advise...? recover from it....
