Before you dig, inspect the path the wire takes. Generally, there will some trauma to cause the wire to break. Vehicles, somebody digging, or other event MIGHT have left a mark. Other than that, it will take some sophisticated equipment to locate the break. It may be that laying a new line will be the preferred option.

dig up various points thru out the yard, ohm meter, volt meter whatever you call it, do some tests to see ya resistance, its gonna be a process of elimination
