The camera still works, it just can't zoom in all the way. It's a Panasonic Lumix DZ290. Great little camera... I don't want to have to replace it. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I take it to a cleaner maybe?

Well, for those anti-Panasonic peckers I believe you should just ignore them, try the home things first, get a compress air can and try to clean it, if you fail, take it to a camera specialist, if you have to buy another one them pay attention to the peckers head above, but Panasonic do make great products at a fair price...
Try Fuji next time, they have great cameras that will survive in the sand....

i offered a digicam and did no longer like it (Fuji S9500) I then went directly to SLR cameras. I additionally stress rescue boats. we've had some exciting utilizing this digicam for terribly extreme danger photos inclusive of putting the digicam over the realm of the boat etc. on an identical time as i do no longer propose this for a digicam you care approximately, this digicam has no longer failed yet. different than for treating it badly in use, I do seem after it so some distance as cleansing it etc. So don't be paranoid, circulate get the shot. don't get it moist. think of approximately it besides with the way technologies is going you will maximum possibly purchase yet another digicam in the nest few years in the previous this one dies of exposure!

Buy another Panasonic Lumix DZ290 if it can't be repaired. Or find out how much repaires will cost and factor that against buying a new one.

Well you can try getting a can of air an blow on the cracks where the sand might be. That should work, especially if you don't want to replace it or if you don't have a warranty that covers it. Try the can of air and if that doesn't work try calling the manufacturer and ask them for advise.

lol if the camera is working no need to worry. as in digi camera there are no moving parts insides such as gears and things, as long as it's not in the moving lense if u have digital zoom

and also.. Sand is not a conductor so u no need to worry... don't take it for replace unless it's free!!!

and if u are really that scared... sell the item on eBay and say it's perfect.. buyer won't know... if u dun feel guilty about it

stop fiddling around with it so u don't ruin it from inside . take it to the shop (where u brought it) and they can clean it for u . u might need to replace the lens, but i hope u will just need to clean it. u must buy a marine pack next time u go to the beach . i don't know if panasonic has them but sony does.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we had this happen to us before. For us it actually turned out to be more expensive to have it repaired than it was to just completely replace it. We've learned our lesson & don't ever take our camera to the beach if there's the least bit of wind.

Hope you have better luck :O)

Well your first problem. Your a cheap-o. Cuz you never eber buy Panisonic! DUH. Homedog. J/K. But you need to take it to the camera place and see if you can return it or have them fix it. I was kidding about the cheap-o. But really don't ever buy one of those again!
