I want a puppy that would be good in an apartment. We will take it out a lot for walks and things like that. I would love one with long hair or fluffy hair[I don`t mind the shedding] and one that will cuddle and won`t make a ton of noise. It would be nice if it was easy to train.

I also have a bird.. Would the puppy be a danger to it? I could just keep it out of that room if it would, though. The cage is hanging.

Thanks! <3

Go to your local shelter, tell them what u want, they can usually tell what breeds they are made of -lol- and u will probly fall in love quick. Plus mutts live long healthy lives usually, and shelters sometimes have purebreds too. Please help the cause... its nice to know someone is willing to give a pup a nice home!!!

i would keep the bird in another room.....and away from the puppy! you never know what could happen. and remember that dogs are predators, so some have higher prey drives than others.
(although some dogs are just find with smaller animals....you never know)..anyways...there are a few dogs that are fluffy, cuddly, and wonderful for apartments..as LONG AS THEY GET EXERCISE!
Toy Poodle, sweet little dogs, low to no shedding, will need some grooming
Shih Tzu, sweet, playful, loyal, low to no shedding, will need some grooming
Lhasa Apso, wonderfully sweet, cuddly, low to no shedding, will need grooming
Bichon Frise (my personal fav little dog), charmingly goofy, playful, cuddle bugs!!! personality plus, low to no shedding, will need some grooming.

here are some web pages on those breeds...look at the temperament etc to see if any of these dogs will fit in with your lifestyle!
(pssst..pick the bichon! ha ha)

the last link is of the bichon...when their hair is groomed...they look like little cotton balls!

OH and DONT get the dog from a pet store..they come from horrible puppy mills!!!!

I would adopt! So many animals need a good home and most dogs from the shelter make the best dogs. Most of the the best dogs are born in a shelter. Just go to your local animal shelter and look around I'm sure u will find something right for you. have two dogs from the animal shelter that i would not trade for the world.

If you're worrried about the dog messing with your bird then put the bird in another room, since the dog might try to mess with it.

But there are several small dog breeds that can be suitable for an apartment, one breed you may like are Beagles.

Here's some sites that can help you find one.

I suggest a poodle or poodle mix. They are very smart and therefore easy to train. A toy or teacup poodle would be best because mini and standard may be too big for a appartment. I have toy poodle named Izzy and he is great. He was crate trained in weeks. Also they do not shed at all and love to cuddle!

Try a Pomeranian. They yap a lot as puppies but grow up nicely. I would get a female, as the male will hose your furniture. To my knowledge mine {FouFou} is afraid of everything except food, so the bird is safe. They are cuddly, and can be trimmed to resemble a little lion. Warm fuzzies!

I would say a rat terrier, we have two and we take them outside 10 mins - two to three times a day and they are cool. Some times we use a laser light and have them run it up and down the hall way (avoiding their eyes of course) and that keeps them busy. I don't know about other rat terriers, they are not yappy dogs and have way less energy then a Jack Russel.

If i were u i would buy a shetland. i is small, smart obidient, with long fur. it will not eat your bird and will not bark a lot. if u are going to buy one, buy a female, cause male are not so obidient and they pee all over the house.
here is the pic.
Ps: it looks like a colie but it is way smaller than it.

I would suggest a bichon or spaniel... but see ifyou can adopt something rather than going to a pet store... because it's cheaper and you are rescuing pets which might otherwise be put to sleep
