My friend does this and that dog seems so lonesome. I have begun bringing him to my house when I can but cannot always do it. I recommended she get another dog for company since she must be away so often.

Unfortunately, a lot of people have pets for their own gratification without considering that the pet needs attention too. You are kind to be concerned and to help when you can, and yes, another dog would help it. But as long as it is being physically taken care of and treated well when the owner is at home, don't listen to the people who tell you that you should report it to anyone. Sad as this situation is, there is entirely too much of people trying to mind everyone else's business.

Well....it isn't kind to leave an animal alone soo much. Another pet for company might be a good solution. However, if the pet has a loving home, and is well treated and cared for then you have to be thankful the dog is better off than a lot of pets that are abandoned in shelters right now. I wish it weren't so.

for 1 or 2 days on an irregular basis, yes. but often and when the dog shows signs of loneliness, then no. the dog should be left with someone or in a reputable kennel.

please don't recommend that she have yet another dog..that she abandons on a regular basis. dogs are pack animals...they NEED CONSTANT contact with their pack. her leaving all the time is sure to make that dog a nervous, lonely wreck!
take the dog for a walk.
instead of telling her to get another dog...ask her if maybe it would be best to find her a more committed home. if she doesn't have time for a dog..she really shouldn't have one let alone two!

It depends on the dog... our dog doesn't mind, but some will get really hyperactive and distructive if left along. Something simple to do is leave the radio or tv on because the sounds will be good for the pup!

For days at a time? No, of course not. They are like children. That is nice of you to keep the dog company. She shouldn't have a dog, if she doesn't have the time to spend with him and care for him. It's not fair.

The dog does need company. It is NOT kind to leave the dog alone for days. I will take it to the ASPCA or something.

Dogs are social pack animals. Another dog might help, but really she shouldn't have pets if she leaves them alone that much.

No, it isn't any kind to do that to a pet! Your friend must not have that dog anymore. And of course, she is not the ideal person to own a pet at all.

I hire a persitter when I travel for business and she comes over 3 times a day and stays each time for an hour.

This leaves my home secure as it is not left emtpy, and it lets my pets stay someplace where they are comfortable, and surrounded by their own familiar things.
