I presume you're talking about a riflescope and can't afford a Swarovski. Neither can I. Inexpensive scopes like Simmons, Tasco, and Bushnell seem to work fine, but I have never had to use them in severe conditions. Wal-Mart is a good source. Spend just a few bucks more for a front-focus scope.

Use low-rise mounts if possible. Bore-sight and make rough height adjustments, if possible, with shims instead of the reticle adjusters. Millett makes a mount for rough windage adjustment.
