My cat has fleas and I want to treat him quickly but i have to wait to get the meds., can I at least wash off the flea dirt? I know I can wash him but I only have dog shampoo... Hartz® LIVING™ Groomer's Best® All-Purpose Shampoo to be exact. I have interned with a vet before and saw cats go into shaking fits from dog flea meds, but this is just shampoo. Will it hurt him? Can I use it? Please help me!!! I don't want to hurt him, but cannot deal with flea dirt all over my bed and his appointment isn't for a week and a half. i have no way to get anywhere right now and I'll be lucky if i can even in the next few days, all I want to know is if i can use dog shampoo on him...??? oh and I will be getting revolution flea stuff for him as soon as his vet appointment. By the way my cat is 2 and has never had fleas before, I think he got them from either sitting in the window screen or, the new harness I got him from petco.

What you can do is go buy Head & Shoulders shampoo. Something about the pyrithione zinc in it will kill the fleas. Just lather him up, let the lather sit on him for ten minutes or so, and then rinse and repeat. Also, the shampoo will not dry out his skin or coat, and it doesn't contain anything that's toxic to him (I have used it on my cats for years without adverse effects).

hartz tends to be very harsh for cats and even some dogs. you can use any mild human shampoo, the bathing will kill the fleas just not the flea eggs which could hatch in about every three days. you can repeat once a week until you get to the vet.

Never mind waiting for the appointment, just go to the vet clinic and buy a tube of Advantage.
There are several good products like Advantage, Frontline and Revolution, but tests have shown that Advantage works a little faster than the others.
Be sure to buy it from the vet practice. The market has been flooded with dangerous counterfeit products and many cats and dogs have died. Even legitimate retailers have been fooled, so buy only from a vet practice. They get it directly from a manufacturer's rep, so you can be sure it's genuine.

The well being nutrition shop many times has some sturdy organic shampoos and coverings for fleas that are non stressful. My renowned approach is least stressful and could desire to be relaxing on your canines because it's going to supply him various your undivided interest: %. the fleas off with the aid of hand and drown them in a bowl of water with some drops of dish cleansing soap in it. Our canines could line up for this treatment in the event that they have been given fleas. there is tiny combs on the puppy shop to help with this..very affordable and can be particularly clever.

If you have a "lice" comb nearby use it, it will get the eggs and flea dirt out along with any flea's. Then just tie up the trash bag you dump them in so they can't get out and place it outside where they can't get back inside, then vaccuum your bedroom, etc and change your bedding. This will get rid of MOST of the fleas on your cat and if you comb him daily you'll be surprised at how well it actually keeps them kept down.
Good luck.

Use Ivory bar soap. It will actually drown the fleas, though it won't get all of them. Much safer than using the dog shampoo.

Don't use it on the kitty. When it is dog shampoo, it is way stronger and the kitty will be mad. Don't use it. Poor baby.
