Ishmael was not the father of Islam - his distant descendant, Muhammad was.

God had blessed Ishmael's younger brother Isaac who was born of Abraham's wife saying he (Isaac) would be the child of promise - or that is - of the Covenant and a great Nation (Israel).

Regarding Ismael however, God promised to make Ishmael into a great nation too (Arabs), but, his people would stir trouble where ever they went. They would be against everyone (especially his brother Isaac's descendants) and as a result (retaliation) they would be against them.

This has a great deal to do with the conflict as we see today. And of that conflict - from Islam a false Muslim messiah will come (soon) that will prove to be the Antichrist.

Just as Christ Jesus came from Isaac's seed - the Antichrist will come from Ishmael's seed.

The descendents of Ishmael (son of Abraham and Hagar) were the original Muslims. One of them, Mohammed, is considered the father of Islam.

As a sidebar...

After the birth of Abraham's other son, Isaac, Abraham sent Ishmael and Hagar away. They ended up in Mecca, which is in modern day Saudi Arabia. (This story is in both the Bible and the Q'uran.)

Per the Q'uran, Abraham visited Ishmael at Mecca, where they built an altar together, called the Ka'aba. Today, the Ka'aba serves as the most holy site of the Muslim religion. Many Muslims from the around the world make it a goal to someday make a pilgrimage to the Ka'aba at Mecca.

From what little I know about Islam, Hagar was Abe's wife, not Sarah, so Ishmael was his legitimate son. In Christan theology, Hagar was the maid and Sarah the wife. But according to Muslims, Islam is the true religion of Abraham, so he is the founder, not Ishmael or Muhammad, though Muhammad was the one who brought it into contemporary time.

Yes, from what I've read, Ismael(the son of Abraham by Hagar)is the ancestor of Islam, just as Isaac is the ancestor of Judaism & Christianity, & I've also read that Bahais are descended through Abraham's concubine, Keturah.

More like the great grandfater of Islam. Problem is that God promised his line earthly kingdoms, NOT the Salvation Line. Mohammed was confused and lied to by Satan masquerading as Gabriel.

YEs, that is why there will never be any peace over there. That son was blessed by God, but Abraham was told that his son would be a leader of a great nation that will never have peace.

Interesting question. Ishmael was the son, and I have always thought that he was the patriarch of the muslims, but there is no scripture for that. Maybe someone knows the history that would prove it.

No, same ethnicity, but no. Arabs have always been pagan. They were up until Mohammad.

edit-and they would still be if Islams main tool for evangelism was not the sword.

You spread hatred due to ignorance.

Abraham (PBUH) is the founder of Islam not Muhammad (PBUH). Muhammd (PBUH) is the follower of Abraham religion.
