Me and my BF think this should be shown in sex ed. classes.
We think that every child who is in an influencal part of life should see this because of all of the things that this movie covers. And it lets people know that no matter if you have AIDS, are gay, or live in poverty that everyone is a person. And that these issues can affect anyone.

To water skipper what does brain washing have to do with this movie? This movie shows someones expirence with these issues in his life. This movie can help teach young teens the cons about drug use, and the pro's about treating everyone as a person. You are an example of why childern should be taught these things.
If igronant and closed minds are teaching childern then how do why expect them to learn true wrong from right.

I'm a parent of two, a boy and a girl. I'm an avid fan of Rent, as well. As for it being shown in sex ed classes, that might be a good idea. However, getting it shown would be difficult, as many still consider the film and show as somewhat taboo. I do believe parents should play the major role in educating their children on the subject of sex, but I also think that sex ed classes need to be run not by licensed professionals, but by parents themselves. There are many schools that don't even have sex ed classes, and those are the ones with the higher teenage pregnancy rates. Their "family planning" courses are no substitution for the subject many feel is too personal. I wonder, though, how else they expect children to learn but through personal experiences of others educating them.

Yes and no. It depends on the maturity of the class. It would be a very good awareness-arouser for people to see though the risks of having sex and doing drugs and getting AIDS. It also opens up to gay relationships which mature kids will have to accept.

I think that that might be a good idea, just so that they can see first hand what the risks are without actually having to be affected, but considering that the national stance on sex ed right now is abstinence, I don't think it's likely to actually happen.

i think parents should have a bigger part in sex ed, and stop depending on the schools to show everything to them.
I know I'd be angry if movies I didn't approve of were being shown to my kids.
If you think your kids should see it, that's fine, but there are many parents who would disagree.
Yes, everyone of us is a beautiful creation though, I agree with that, being poor or diseased is no reason you shouldn't be respected.
i just think parents should have more say in what their kid's learn and see in school.

Films and music which increases our respect for others has a positive role to play in life and in education.

We need to do everything we can to make everyone aware that we are more like each other than we are different.

I think the purpose of school is education, not brainwashing.
