Regretfully I have, I spent 36 days in jail waitiing for court date. I didn't like being there. It was the worst.. No real mattress on the bed frame.. just a thin mat... the food was awful. We had a brown bag special about 2-3 times a week, that was a bologna sandwich and 2 cookies with a cup of koolaid. They would give this out on court days. We had the option of buying commisary items soap shampoo and snack foods. If you bought them you'd better be willing to fight to keep them because there were people that would try to pressure you to give them your stuff. There were endless hours doing nothing, you can only play so many hands of cards and dominoes. You get someone that wants to fight and you can't go away from them so you're stuck without the option of walking away. Tensions rise more rapidly when you're locked up. You don't get to have your own clothes and the orange jumpsuits don't fit right unless you're lucky. In most facilities there's no smoking. Lights are out around 10 pm that's when the TV goes out and everyone is locked down to their cell for the night...lights out doesn't happen, they leave them on 24/7. If someone else gets in a fight you're best bet is to go to your cell and lock yourself down, I found that out the first day when the guards came in and maced someone that was too close to the 2 way observation mirror. I got hit with the overspray, that stuff won't quit burning for a while. Overall, I'd say jail was an experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. If you are thinking of doing something illegal, don't, it's not worth the lost time and humiliation you'll go through.

you get no privacy your toilet is in your cell.
You have people who offer protection but you must give them "special favors"
sometimes your cell mate may make you sleep on the floor if he/she wants a more confy sleeping place by taking your bedding to add to thier own
you stay in your cell 23 hours a day
somemtimes crooked guards will arrange a fight for you and a fellow inmate and you guys have to fight it out for thier enjoyment
sometimes you get undergarments way to big or small
when taking a shower you have to cover your butt.

(this is everything my cousin told me when he was in jail.)
