Which do you prefer, yoga or pilates? I'm considering both. I want something that will tone, relax, and keep me fit.

Why not just do both?

They both do very different things for your body and both are excellent, EXCELLENT for your muscles, for relaxation, and for overall fitness. You might have an easier time sticking with a routine, too, if you're doing something different every now and then, instead of JUST doing yoga all the time. Mix it up and have fun! There are lots of great videos on yoga and Pilates -- I'd recommend you check a few out from your local public library and see if you like one better than the other. Or if you think both would be a good combo for you. Libraries are free! Use them!

I've tried both and I prefer Yoga. Pilates trains the body and gives you good posture, but Yoga with proper instruction also trains the mind. It helps me to be calmer and more focused.

They aren't compatible because the breathing technique is completely opposite.

Both. I do yoga in the morning to wake up and stretch out, then pilates in the afternoon as more of a workout.

Yoga will relax you, but pilates is better for toning and keeping you fit, at least in the beginning, because it really strengthens your core muscles.
