It all depends on how the animal acts and how old the baby is. If you have a hyper animal that likes to jump on everyone, you should try to at least keep the animal in another room. Also, some animals are jealous of babies and they can try to hurt them. Especially if the animal came first. It may think that the baby is messing in its turf. I suggest watch how the baby and animal interact with each other. If they get along and the baby's not allergic, go for it. Why not?

I have a 3 1/2 month old and the dogs and cats love him. I keep them at a distance though and always watch them. Sometimes when they are horse playing they don't realize that he is around them so I always am close by. Just make sure that you give the animals some attention so they won't feel so left out and as long as they are not aggressive and you are willing to keep an eye on them I see no problem. Good luck and congratulations!

Yes it safe depending on the kind of animal. I have a dog and she is 6yrs old I was a little worried at first, but she is protective.
and plus I've heard that dog hair, dander is good for the baby to
be around for further allergies and becoming sick so much. not for sure but that's what i was told. but you know your animal and how she/he reacts towards different things. on different sites they say don't ignore your animal when a new baby comes home that's how they get jealous and turn on the baby. so include your pet. but also keep a eye on him or her too, when around the baby

It's not good to neglect animals period. If you don't want to keep an animal safe inside you should consider finding them a good home who is willing to take care of them responsibly. Babies aren't the only creatures that need to be taken care of. Animals need care too.

i know what you asking i asked my self that same question when i was pregnant with my son and i had a full grown pit bull and yes i know the rep that ,that kind of dog has but i didn't raise my dog that way. my dog lay-ed down with me and she felt the baby kick a few time and she probably though it was me . -----well -- my point is this its good to have a dog inside when there's a baby just keep an eye on them that's all. some pet can be come jealous just introduce them slowly .
good luck

I also must agree that alot of it depends on the animal.
When my sister & I were little we had a blue healer named Max. Max was one of those dogs who would let a kid twist his ears ALL the way around, and he'd still just sit there happily even though everyone knew it was hurting him.
My sister used to sit in the front yard with Max while my mom was gardening, whenever she stumbled over to the road he'd bite the back of her shirt and gently pull her back.
He did all kinds of stuff like that. I honestly can't imagine what life would have been like growing up without him. As odd as it sounds, he was kinda like a live in babysitter. If one of us started crying, he'd be there not even a second later.
I think if you get a good pet, you can really change a kids life.

dont see why it should be too much of a problem...i had a golden retriever and a fat calico when my son was born. i worked doubly hard to keep the house clean...the dog wasnt alloud out of the kitchen half of the house...the cat wasnt alloud in babys room at all....i wanted babys room to be clean and hair free....and your never supposed to leave a baby anywhere where your animal can get to it. but health wise ive heard that having animals in your home boosts your childs immune system so as a long term look at it its not a bad thing.

you should introduce the animal to the baby slowly and never leave them unattended!!!! if you feel that the animal is not safe to leave around the baby then you should not let them be in the same room together. if you feel that you cannot adequately keep both your baby and your pet then maybe you should think about your local humane society, they will gladly find a new home for your animal!!!

We always had a cat when my children were babies. You have to make sure that the animal doesn't snuggle too close to the baby and smother him. I think it's good for kids to be around animals.
