Depends. If you are not storing it it is ok to cool certain wines before drinking. Lighter reds sometimes like to be cooler. Remember that cellar temps are supposed to be ~55deg on average so most reds can be cooled a bit if your "room temp" is warm. The speed at which they cool in the fridge and warm up is pretty quick. If your fridge is 35-40 it'll take maybe 45 minutes to warm to 55-65 for a drinkable red. Warmer than that it gets a hot alchohol taste and gets out of balance. On the other hand if it is 70-80 in the kitchen it'll take again about 45 min to get down to a good starting point temp.
Lighter wines like pinot noir, beaujolais, etc can be cooler than cabs. Also drink-me style less expensive wines can be great cooler than warmer.
If you are trying to store wine long term the temp variability and low temps of the fridge can be harsh on the aging potential of the wine.
To answer your question bluntly, though: beginners, pedants, and snobs will beat you down if you refridgerate red wine but my advice is to not worry about it and experiment with different reds at different temps to see what you like. Also remember that it will warm quickly in the glass but never cool down so always start cooler than you think or want.

Woahhh !!!
Who says it is wrong??
Red wine is best slightly cool to the lips. If it is too warm then it will taste alcoholic, slightly cooler and the fruit will shine.
A lot of people talk room temperature, but your room could be in Iceland or Texas, so what then? Room temperature dates from Victorian England -- if you've seen any historical TV dramas set then you'll see they wore lots more clothes indoors than we do now. That's because the rooms were darn cold then.
If it is hot where you are, stick your red wine in the fridge for 15 minutes before opening and be amazed how much better it tastes.
I was in Italy last week in a restaurant on a hot day and called for an ice-bucket to stick a bottle of expensive red wine in. The difference after 15 minutes was incredible. And I went to a winery there where the owner served his red wine from an ice bucket.
I asked the wine waiter at the restuarant why they didn't chill the reds and he replied that all the tourists expected their reds at 'room temperature', but he always chilled his own wine on such hot days.
If it happens that you think the wine is too cold, that is easily rectified. Justcup the bowl of theglass in your hand. Better served too cool than too hot.
In the end, theonly correct way to serve a wine is the way you like it. But do experiment for yourself and make up your own mind. There is a

Depending of the wine, some "redish" wines can be refrigerated. But, the drier varieties like Merlot, Cabernet, Chianti, etc. should be served at room temp. They surely taste more full bodied when served that way.
