No. There are very low levels of sulfites in wine, much lower than other foodstufs and their sole purpose is as a preservative.

A number of compounds are used in wine making. Only sulphites excites attention, presumably because that is the only one mentioned on the label.

Sulfites are a natural by product of fermentation, in addition sulfur has been used since the beginning of history for sterilizing everything used in winemaking - barrels etc.

Sulfites are present in a huge range of other foodstuffs, including fruit juices, dried fruits and even found in eggs.

No, but some people can drink wine because of them..allergies
