Do some Christians believe that "asking in Jesus name" is some magical chant or superstituous cliche used to manipulate God? Is that what it sounds like to atheists?

As an atheist, to me it just sounds like wishful thinking.

I undsertand the impulse. I respect the impulse.

But wishing doesn't make it so.

Only God can do miracles. I believe that miracles happen everyday . . . like person getting well from a disease that doctor's thought would kill him. I don't think God can be manipulated into doing miracles. Asking in Jesus name is just a way of praying. Jesus is our advocate before God, standing between God and man as a mediator. But just because you say "in Jesus name" doesn't mean that God will automatically give you what you want. Sometime God says no, and I think God will always say no if what is asked is for selfish reasons or to show off or manipulate.

Yes some do, Others believe what Jesus said, If you ask any thing in my Name I will do it, It isn't just some chant you recite to get what you want, it take Faith and Knowledge, and it works, I have seen Cancerous Tumor disappear, Broken Bones healed I threw my glasses away in 1980 and I see better today than I did for the 15 years that I wore glasses.

Okay. No one one this earth can do miracles. No, a Christian cannot do miracles. Because if we could, practically the over half the world would have no hospitals, because everyone was healed. But that is a very interesting question and i like it.

Only God can do a miracle, and the age of miracles is past because there is no need for them today since we have the word.

I always thought that God did the miracle - not the Christian him/herself.

Using Jesus' name is just dialing the phone number and hoping it's in his will.

Only God can perform miracles. Man can do nothing without God. Jesus tells us that is the way we are supposed to pray, in His name. He told us the only way to the Father is through Me. Now you do the arithmitic.

Since you dont have a relationship with Jesus, there will not be one single answer to your question that will satisfy you.
Jesus will open doors for you in life for the simple reason of with obedience to Him comes rewards of gifts, and of blessings, and miracles. Non believers cannot possible understand this.
