a couple of times people have asked back if I went to church, and the fact is that I don't normally go to churches, in fact I am what most would call an athiest or an agnostic(much more accurate) The first time I asked this I worded it a bit rough, some were quite annoyed, but I still got a wide range of interesting comments. I do hope you guys bother to read each others answers. Some are beautiful, some leave me laughing every time I think of them.
I am going to try to figure out a way to ask this that lets the others who go to worship(Might use that term) in other named building, like temples and synagoges, and on different days can feel comfortable answering also.
That is enough from me for this week, usually I do not write so much into details but I thought sime of you might like to know what this was about. Thank you all for your time

Yes, indeed. It just so happened that the choir director was also bringing the message today. A dfficult task, b/c the gospel text was the story of Herod, Herodias, and the death of John the Baptizer. In her message, she made reference to the opera Salome.

I like this church because there is considerable participation by the congregation, including singing of traditional hymns and choruses, responsive readings, unison prayers, and praise and prayer requests. Today the summer choir performed no anthems but led the congregation in singing several pieces, including an old favorite, "Blessed Assurance."

I do indeed sing. My wife and I have often sung in choirs, cantatas, specials (duets, solos). But today my voice was not up to par and I probably was one of those in the congregation "who sing badly." One doesn't notice that so much when the spirit is right -- as it is in this church.

We have just moved to this city. We intended to become members of a large downtown church, which has a distinguished choir. But the atmosphere among the attendees has been so cold and the congregational singing so minimal (and uninspired) that we are now pledging ourselves to this smaller neighborhood church up the street from our house (not even the denomination we have previously been associated with).

To us, singing is an important way to praise God and witness to our fellow congregants; more important, it is one way the Spirit speaks to/within us.

Thanks for asking this question. I wonder why you are particularly concerned about those "who sing badly." Would you have preferred that I maintain my silence today? I hope not.

Yeah, I did and I'm glad too. I didn't get to go last Sunday, and I always feel better when I go to church.

My Sunday School Class was about your expectations for grades, being a Christian, being a friend, and being a family member vs. your parents' views vs. the church's views vs. the world's views and how they differ. We also talked about Micca in the Bible and we had to decide if it would be easier to sacrifice or judge and I chose sacrifice because when you judge somebody, you hurt somebody in the process, but when you sacrifice, you're giving up something, but it doesn't do any harm to anyone else emotionally or physically.

Our church service was long today, an hour and a half that is... We didn't have our church choir today though. The congregation sang hymns and we had this guy from the congregation that's musically talented sing some kind of hymn (like an opera type thing, I hate those, but oh well)... We have a piano player in our church, a bell choir, and musical instruments at time, but not an organ. Today, we only had the piano playing.

FYI: Some people sing off key, but you don't talk about it. Your singing hymns glorifying God, not judging people. No one sings terribly in our church.

Have a great day and God bless you.

If and when I do go to Church, it is NEVER on a Sunday. From history we learn that the official worship day was change from the day of the Lord, Saturdays, to Sundays by Constantine. The Vatican church has openly admitted this and does have to documentation in its hall of records. The official day was changed because of the hatred for the Jews, who worshipped on Saturdays. As I said in a previous answer, ALWAYS REMEMBER, FOR EVERYTHING THE LORD HAS THE DEVIL HAS AN OPPOSITE.

I love going to church, and I am a leader at church in singing. No today I did not go, pain was to strong, can stay up for to long. I'm going for surgery very soon.

But this is why I'm here trying to help the need and ignoring the fools, cause a lot of them are in here. But we still have to help those that don't even believe.

Have a blessing day and always help me pray for those that are blind and death in the spirit.

God bless.

I was barely able to get myself up in time this morning for our church. I'm so glad I woke up b/c my Sundays just don't start off right without church. Otherwise I would have wasted away in bed feeling miserable and lonely until I would finally wake up by watching TV to see what's happening around me so I can feel like I'm part of this world. I don't appreciate hanging out with the TV people who don't care one bit what you think. We arrived few minutes late to our church (which is a junior high school) but others came into our classroom after us so we weren’t the worst of the bunch.

And yes we did try to read & sing the first 10 stanzas of Chapter 16 Bhagwad Gita but we did it kind of badly. Then we chanted the 1st 5 stanzas/shlokas of the Ishavasyam Upanishad before watching our videotaped sermon that is subtitled in English. And at the end of that and our nonexistent discussion, we sang along with the videotaped Aarti which is accompanied by funky tabla music so it always gets my legs bouncing. We didn’t play any instruments other than our voices.

Thanks for voting me the best answer for 1 of your questions. Sorry I just went off like that on the Hindu gods question because we Hindus always get defensive and sensitive since they incorrectly teach that Hinduism is polytheistic in all American schools. I don’t know if this is Christian propaganda or if it’s just that we haven’t done a good job of explaining our religion which incorrectly gets compared to the pagan, Greek and Roman gods/religion while the World History textbooks make it seem like Judiasm, Christianity and Islam are more advanced because they are monotheistic. This is totally untrue. The World History textbooks also teach completely incorrect history of Hinduism, which they have adopted from racist and bigoted British and Germans but that’s another subject. If they want to teach about our religion honestly, they should say that in Hinduism, you have free will and freedom to worship God in whichever way that you want. So God can be worshipped in Hinduism as either monotheistic (very, very big monotheism/pantheism or advait), as a duality between you and God (dvait), tritheistic (like the Holy Trinity in Catholicism), polytheism, atheism (where you choose no god as an idol), or nontheism (who pray but do not kiss God’s buttock as in Buddhism). But ultimately you are free to choose how you want to develop yourself spiritually. No one has the right to covert or brainwash you (other than maybe your family). And if anyone tries to convert you, it’s only because they feel inadequate themselves, so just accept them as your annoying and misguided/confused brothers and sisters.

Sorry I went off again, I just feel like we need to do a better job explaining it.

Going to church can sound so odd if you think all religions do is teach intolerance and hatred. Not all church-goers specialize in the politics of "God's" work which is destroying other people's faith. I'm sure you can have a congregation at home where you play loud music and discuss the meaning of the lyrics. Punk rock can be religious. I can't wait till Jesus & Mohammad come back on earth to show us how we got it all wrong.

I am a member of the Church- so I don't "GO" to one, so to speak. But I did attend church services today, and of course- if your following the Bible- you participated in at least:
(well, first- you "forsook not the assembly")
-Spiritual Hymns/Making Melody in your heart
-Gave an as you prospered
-Prayed
-Heard his word taught
-Lord's Supper

And maybe someone was singing badly, but my point of being there wasn't to listen to them but to worship, which is what I strive to do.

:-) So what did YOU do today??? Hope it's been a great day!

No I didn't go to church. Did you? I prefer to practice my religion & talk with my deity on my own if I want to or not. I don't feel the need for a bunch of people to gather together in a certain place on a certain day to do that. But I'm not opposed to it if you want to do that yourself. Freedom of choice, freedom of religion.

I did not go to church.

I did something useful instead. I helped a friend move. It was 101 degrees outside, and he needed as much help as possible.

I figured it was more worthwhile to help my fellow man than to waste time in a church being told that I'll go to Hell.
