Yes sir, DMV should be your first stop. Time behind the wheel is a must. And, I have one more suggestion. Find out where they give the driving test. I have a place about 2 miles from the house. If I were seeking a class A license, I would spend some time just watching from a discreet distance. You might get a better idea of what is going to happen.

If you already have a company in mind to work for check with them to see if they have a class. Many of the larger ones do. If they don't check with your local 2 year college, many offer cdl programs. That's how I got mine.

Go get the manual from your local DMV/RMV. The test is cake anyway. If you don't pass the test get into another line of work.
