that depends on the breed. the overall consensus is that the bigger the dog the shorter the life span, the smaller the dog the longer the life span. for example a Great Dane's average lifespan is roughly 7-10yrs, but some do make it older.....
a Chihuahua on the other had has an average of 14-17 yrs. but there are some that live longer too.
it also depends on how well the animal is cared for.

It all depends on the size of the dos. Smaller dogs on average live to be 15 or so. Bigger dogs live around 10 years.

It depends what kind of dog it is, but generally 9-18 years. Studeies have shown that pure bred dogs actually have shorter life spans than mixed-breeds/mutts. Also, larger dogs tend to have shorter lives than smaller ones. It's all about genetics, diet, exercise, and luck. Just like us I guess.

Most dogs live from 12 years (larger breeds) to 16-18 years (smaller breeds).

Had to euthanize my beloved Yellow Lab - Sandy in May. She was 13, but had a brain tumor and was suffering from terrible seizures.

We miss her terribly.

Bigger breeds = shorter lifespans
Smaller breeds = longer lifespans
Depends how well the animal is cared for (annual vet checkups), the kind of activity it gets (running around vs lazin' about), prone to anything? (hip dysplasia generally causes dogs to be euthanized due to the pain and the tolerance of both owner and dog) and if there was anything that could be genetic.
