Buddhism is not a religion as such. It is a world view. There are simply so many forms of buddhism today u would get confused.
There was a man called Siddhartha who became enlightened and he decided to teach to others what he knew.
Couple of centuries after his death this teachings became the base for evolution of various schools of thought. And today u have things like "Tibetean Buddhism", "Zen Buddhism".... the list is long.
One cannot really convert to Buddhism. What one can do is learn the meditation techniques which the "Siddhartha the Buddha" taught. Do practice some meditation technique and then make your decision.
The enlightened one gave over 80,000 sermons during his lifetime. In every sermon he stressed the practice of "Mindfulness". He never ever said anything about conversion...

With Buddhism, there is no real conversion. Buddhism is all about finding one's self through meditation and self-judgement. However, if you wish to become a Monk, you must seek out a master to mentor you in your mediation. This usually is around 5-8 months in a Buddist monestary.

Start by reading some books on buddhism. You should be able to find an answer while learning about the religion!

I don't know about "converting", but the general way that one becomes a Buddhist is by making the decision to do so. Generally, they announce this to themselves and to others with the declaration:

"I take refuge in the Buddha."
"I take refuge in the Dharma." (the set of rules)
"I take refuge in the Sangha." (the Buddhist community)

That's pretty much it. Of course, that's only the beginning as now it involves trying to understand the Four Noble Truths and following the Eight-fold Path.

Be well.

Convert from what? Why would anyone want to worship an idol? The God I worship is the living God and I can talk to Him. I can see the wonders He does. What can Budda do? What has Budda ever done?
