we are about to move into a house that has a pool. we also have cats...should we have to worry about our cats falling into the pool during the day, or worse in the middle of the night?? (this is only an issue because our our house has "dog/cat doors" that lead to the outside of the lanai where the pool is)

thanks!

yes, i have had a cat fall into the pool, but he learned quick, and doesn't go out side any more, he was able to get out of the pool by himself they usually find a way, also when my kitten was little she fell in the toilet and got stuck... lol that was too funny, but i felt bad. they will learn t be careful.

Cats can swim, but sometimes they cannot get back out. I have a friend with a pool, and one of her cats did get in and drown. It was an above-ground pool off the deck, though, and the water level was low (too low for the cat to climb back out). If your pool is in-ground and the water level is high enough that they could crawl out, it would probably be okay. If it is above-ground, get a pool cover and use it when you are not around.
Good luck!

We have a small pool in our back yard and dog doors that our cats go out. They will lay by the pond and that is about it. Cats are very smart and wise as where to go I don't think you need to worry . Also I have that cats can swim.

No , but you shouldn't have a problem with it , cats are pretty smart and i think that it is probably smart enough to be care full around the pool !!! if it does ever fall in it will also teach it a lesson to be more cautious around the pool !!

No but she fell in the bathtub once seriously I dont think you have anything to worry about. If it should happen your cats would probably swim to get out and be so scared that they will not go near the pool again.

This will be an odd response.

My wife's cat (when she lived with her parents) never fell into the pool, he went in on his own!!!

He'd love to go on the first step and lie down (water was only a few inches deep).

The reappy funny part is that usualy the dog would lie down next to her, oh I wish she had pictures of that!!!

cats don't like water so it will only take one time for them to fall in the pool and then they should not go near the pool again

My dad has a large fish pond in our backyard, and my cat has NEVER once fell in there. He will go and sit by it to watch the fish. Occasionally TRIES to scoop one up; even tho they r way out of his reach LOL. (Fish rnt that dumb ya know LOL)
But anywayz, the main thing is he has never fell in. Cats HATE water! The most they will do is perhaps dip their paws in, being the curious animals that they r.

But u shouldnt haveto worry bout them falling in. God forbid that they do, im sure they would spring out of there like a Bolt of lighting!

No...they won't go near it, trust me. They don't really like water. Although we did have one cat growing up who would dip her tail in the water when it was really hot.

Your cats will be fine.

It will easily be able to swim out: Cats aren't retarded! Besides, they know that where there is water, there is a place it doesn't want to be. He/she will learn quickly.
