Why on the Mormon "bible" does it say, "Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints," when they follow the teachings of Joseph Smith?

Do you believe this is to deceive?

What are your thoughts on this statement?

Mormons don't follow Joseph Smith, we follow Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ came to Earth, suffered for our sins, and died for us so that we may live eternally with God.

Joseph Smith was one who was seeking to know God's will and as with the prophets of old, he was directed by God to carry out His will. As such, he organized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons).

The book of Mormon is about a group of people who left Jerusalem around 600 B.C. They had prophets among them who taught the people and prophesied about the coming of Christ. The book is a record of the journals of these prophets and includes teachings to help us become closer to God.

Here is a quote from the Book of Moromon:
"We talk fo Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins." (2 Nephi 25:26, Page 100)

Every religion follows prophets and apostles. They are the ones that wrote the books in the Bible and the Book of Mormon (which are two seperate collections of ancient writings) We believe that only through Christ can anyone be saved and enter the Kingdom of God. Joseph Smith was the first prophet of the Latter-Days he restored many truths and never claimed to be a saviour. He always taught that Jesus Christ was the redeemer of mankind and the saviour of the world.

The Book of Mormon is seperate than the Bible, so there is no Mormon bible. We are The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because we are Christian and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Mormon is anickname that was given. Joesph Smith is looked at like a prophet, so he is absolutely not worshiped at all. Only God and Jesus are worshiped.

You know, people like to spread hate about this religion, and they have no idea what they are talking about. My husband, who is not Mormon, has recently begun going to church with me and he says that if people would go to one servce they would be surprised at how all the rumors are not true.

No no no. Our church is The Church of Jesus Christ.... we do not worship Joseph Smith, we worship Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Joseph Smith is important to our belief because he was chosen by God to bring the church back the earth. Also, the Book of Mormon is not our bible. We read the bible just like everyone else. The Book of Mormon is simply another testiment of Jesus Christ. It is the record of his visit to the American Continent to the Indians thousands of years ago.
When my mom asked (who is not a member), "Why doesn't it talk about that in the Bible?" I told her, "Mom, think about it... the bible is a written account of Jesus's works in Isreal. The Book of Mormon is the account of his visit to the Americas. They didn't have internet back then where they could shoot an email over and say, 'hey, guess who stopped by today?"' you know?

Mormonism has a good many teachings that don't correspond with the Bible, most notably the one about not adding on to or taking away from the scriptures... but, they do claim the follow Jesus, and that Joseph Smith was one of God's prophets, messengers, whatever you want to call it.

Mormons belive that Joseph Smith is a Latter Day Saint. When refering to saint they mean disciple, like the 12 disciples that walked with Jesus. They beleive that God continues to send disciples to teach us. I do not agree with these teachings so, yes the whole book of Mormon is deception.

We believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of god. Joseph Smith was the founder of the mormons. The mormon "bible" is called The book of Mormon. And no, it is not to decieve, we believe in God (heavenly fatehr) and jesus christ(son who died on the cross for our sins) that they are two seperate beings and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of god. Joseph smith was taught by Jesus Christ and God.
If you really want to know more find a local Mormon church.

i have not ever read the book, so i cannot say that it was meant to deceive.

the "latter day" refers to the fact that is not the "previous day" as in the historical text of the christian bible, torah or koran.

because they want you to think, they follow the teaching of Jesus, and in reality they have changed their teaching to follow them more and more, I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.
