If you want something that is similar to Greenies, I belive Dentabones are a rather good replacement. They crumble when being consumed. As someone else pointed out, use a kong or something, but if he's not into it, for example, the kong, stick peanut butter in it so he gets used into it and knows that the kong is way better than the greenie, and then slowly reduce the amount of peanut butter in it, and hopefully presto!

Treats are okay, as long as they are healthy treats. Greenies and other "junk food" treats are actually very bad for your dog. Dogs have been dying from Greenies because it actually swells up in their bellies and clogs up their systems. If you want to ween your dog off "junk food" treats, reward them with healthy people food, like carrots and cheese. Otherwise good ole milkbones are pretty good for them. But to get them off treats altogether, don't give them! Reward with praise and love. Good luck!

If you r dog chews them appropriately and doesn't chew off large chunks and swallow them and if he is always supervised (as he should be with any chew) then you really don't need to stop giving them, however if you feel safer not giving them or if he's a bad chewer simply take them away and find a more suitable chew for him. There is no need to wean him off of them.
Some good alternatives are raw meaty beef bones, nylabones, kongs..what you give depends on what type of chewer he is.

Why are greenies bad? And if you don't want your dog to eat them, just stop giving them...I don't see your problem.

Try some other chewies such as pig ears, marrow bones (raw) from the butcher, bully sticks.

Why do you want to stop giving them to your dog? I give one to my dog every nite and she loves them. She is small so I give her the petite ones. My veterinarian recommended them.
