We may not be able to combat all evil in the world, but we can eliminate problems one step at a time and we can do things to make our part of the world a better place.
In the next 7 days, what are you willing to do to make the world around you nicer for just one person outside of your home? Come on, I bet you can think of one easy thing to do.
What are you willing to do? I promise to call one person I know who is lonely and shut in.
Your own pledge must be something you are willing to do. Ten points goes to the person who pledges and sincerely is willing to follow through with the best promise.
Make your world a better place one step at a time.

Thank you to those who are listing what they will do, you never know, you may motivate another person by your suggestion. Pay it forward, even if doing only one good deed. You never know ultimately what good it will do overall.

I am donating the old clothes and appliances that I was going to give to the good will or trade in at a consignment shop to the shelter for battered women and taking donations of old baby toys and furniture and books to the pediatric wards of a couple local hospitals, I had a wonderful response from my friends after asking for donations for the pediatric ward and one hospital was grateful and directed me to the shelter, and the women appreciated the cereal and clothing we have givien so far, but I have more thing to take this weekend, I have decided that I can be more thoughtful of others in my community, thanks for the suggestion, I always think I do enough because I donate my time and energy to other causes but there is always something else we can do that does not take alot of energy

Well, my husband and I heard the weather report here in Indiana for the weekend, Hot, hot , hot.
So , we went to Walmart and purchased three fans. I promptly posted them on Freecycle,(there should be one in your area),its a place to give things away for free.
We asked that they go to someone who is elderly and shut in or handicapped.
So far, only one response of many, actually read the whole posting, has actually received a fan. A family with an asmatic child who did receive a tiny air conditioner from a CAAP office, but did not have a good fan on it, so this fan will be used to help the air conditioner circulate the air.
The strange thing is, no one else is responding that they know of anyone who might need the other two fans. Lots of perfectly healthy people want them, but not willing to look around and see if someone next door or on their road might be without and needy.
But we have not given up, still searching for someone who might need them.
Good luck on your project, and hopefully you are blessed as you bless others with your outreach this week

What a fine idea you have!! Very nice and very original!! Congratulations in coming up with this challenge/exercise. You are very brave and courageous for this idea! I hope you don't get any crack pots that answer you.
I promise to make a little boy's life as fun and understandable as I can. He is 9 yrs. old and suffers with ADHD and depression. People make fun of him and call him names that he doesn't understand their cruelty towards him. I promise to make him feel more comfortable with his body and to make him accept his condition and understand his condition a bit better for him. I promise also to teach him some good self talk habits and not to talk negatively to himself and believe the negativity that others have dished to him all his life.
I may not know what ADHD feels like for my own self, but I do know how depression and negative self talk can do personally. I know all about mental and emotional abuse, and if there is some way and some how I can ease this life long pain for him I will. Through God's help all things are possible!

I will set aside 1 hour each day (1 to 2a.m. eastern time) and pray for the world and all my family, friends and even strangers I don't know but the Lord knows them and their needs.
I will visit my home bound grandmother at least 3 times a week and call to see if she needs me to bring her anything.
I promise to WRITE an actual letter, not email, one friend a week to keep in touch and just let them know that I'm thinking of them.
I promise to fast 12 hours once a week. (I'm diabetic or I'd do more)
I promise to read a chapter of the Bible every day.
I promise to smile and say hello to my drug dealing neighbors who keep me up and invite them to our church's upcoming revival and will pray for their souls.
I promise to pray for the leaders of all nations that the Lord will direct their steps and cease any evil in their hearts.
I promise all these things before my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All I ask in return is pray for me, I have cancer.
This is probably the best question I've seen on here! Thank you for restoring my faith that there are actually sane and caring people in this world.

Very good question/challenge. I think this is best question I've seen on here yet.
I'm not a Buddhist but I've admired Buddhist teachings. In the past I've tried to treat everyone, whether they're a jerk to me or not, with utmost kindness. If you say kind words to something who's being a jerk to you, it's surprising sometimes how they turn around and become a completely different person to you. It really does have an impact.
I will treat everyone I meet with kindness this week, whether or not they treat me right.

I'm willing to give the next homless person I see I will give them money to get whatever they want and hope they use it for good purposes. I will do this instead of telling them no and then mumbule under my breath, "get a job, man". Everybody deserves a second chance in the world. I'll give the next person just enouph rope to hang themselves. If the misuse my kind gesture they'll be back to square one and I doubt other people will be as nice to them as i will be.

My number one priority is to send a care package to my brother-in-law in Iraq. He left two days ago and I have been gathering things that I think he would most like. This may not help the World around me, but it helps him, who is helping us. That's my most important goal and it may not be something you deem as important, but it is extremely important to me, my sister, and the rest of my family, and I know he will appreciate it and give him some hope that us back home are thinking of him, loving him, and praying for him. I'm glad you are a good person as well.

Excellent idea.
I think you're right, that if we improve our immediate surroundings, we really are at the beginning of improving the world.
I don't know any shut-ins, but just yesterday I met a new family in my neighborhood. The husband is in Iraq, leaving his bride to care for the children and pets. I tend to be antisocial (not unfriendly, just not the sociable type), but I will make an effort to make them feel welcome and let them know they can call on me when they need help.
Not much, but it's a start.

I actually know someone who used to be very good friends with, but we unfortunately drifted apart several years ago. I think that I will call her, and see how she is doing. This is a nice thing you are doing, I will take you up on your challenge and I hope to gain a old friend in the process.

That's very nice, but we who are affiliated with religious church activities have been doing this for centuries and even now!....churches provide for the homeless, prison ministry, hospitals, unwed mother's homes, half-way houses, counselling for those who are drug addicts, those who are in abusives situations, children's ministries, etc. etc. etc. and whatever is needed to help people!....this is GOD' WORK through His Ministries!......Very Good Challenge!....hope many will take advantage of your challenge, I do everyday, but we need many more!......
