Someone chucks a brick through my window and kills my daughter. I decide the guilty party is a guy in another suburb we all dislike. I spread the word this guy is guilty and get everyone agreeing, but he denies it. I even get a few envelopes, put in some poison and mail them off to some neighbours. I spread the word this guy sent the poison and get everyone gossiping (he’s trying to kill again) and get them hating him more.

I go out and mount a surprise attack on his house. Throw in a some fire bombs, shoot bullets through his window, try to kill him. I miss, but kill a few of his friends and his house explodes because of a gas leak, killing a couple of his innocent neighbours.

Later I find out he didn’t throw the brick through my window, and was never involved. I just made a mistake and killed innocent people. Am I guilty of murder, homicide or what, after all he was still a bad guy?

I only ask because my actions seem no different than that of G W Bush invading Iraq.

Based on the teachings of the Bible, murder is a sin. However, according to this religion, if you ask for forgiveness and allow God in you life before you die, you will go to heaven.

The Bible does not weigh one sin heavier than the other. So a murderer has sinned the same as someone who talks back to their parents.

In your situation, you made a mistake by judging him and gossiping. All you need to do is ask your God for forgiveness and he will accept you.

First of all, yes, you are guilty of murder.
Second, the war on Iraq is perfectly justified and the people their who are performing terrorist actions (car bombs, etc.) prove that Iraq is/was a primary location of global terrorists.
These are the people who kill innocent people every day and George Bush is trying to put a stop to it.

The terrorists are there now and they always were, George Bush was right and those who are against him are obviously wrong.

If you're a Christian, then maybe God will forgive you.

If you're a Jew, then God's going to enact revenge.

If you're a Muslim, you'll get either a bunch of virgins or a bunch of pomegranates, depending on the translation.

But if you're a Buddhist...the only one who can forgive you is you. Then you have to end attachment to your guilt, end attachment to your forgiveness, end attachment to your enemy, and to yourself.

That's why most Americans prefer the simplest...and least painful...answer.

P.S. (I've often thought that IF I were a Christian...I'd believe that there's a very special place in Hell reserved for Presidents who make mistakes.)

In this scenario, you are guilty of murder whether he was guilty or innocent.

He may be a murderer as well, but his guilt or innocence will not absolve you of your crime.
