It has to be the frontline drops. They are the only thing I've found that are a sure thing. A couple things to keep in mind though- only buy them from a reputable source like your vet. (there are counterfeit ones out there and they can be very dangerous to your pet.) And check out the instructions on any of these types of drops (frontline, advantage etc) with certain brands, you can't bathe your pet after applying the drops because it will wash the drops off and you lose the effectiveness. (you can also ask your vet about a special shampoo that is okay to use while using the drops)
As far as vacumming- yes do it- vaccum everything in your house very thouroughly. Then MAKE SURE you take out the bag, seal it in a plastic bag and dispose of it. If you vaccum up flea eggs, and leave them in your vaccum, they will hatch- and just when you think you've gotten rid of the flea problem, you'll have a whole new batch of fleas to deal with. (but if you have the drops, any new flea will go onto your animal and be killed)

Advantage flea treatment from your local veternarian. Dont waste your money on flea shampoo, spray, powder, collars, or dips. By time you spend money on all that to find out it doesnt work you could have just got the advantage. Go to the vet. It costs more initially but you wont regret it. And when you use advantage there is no need to treat your house. The fleas will be gone in 2-3 days and the animal will have relief. I have had many a bad experience with fleas on a dog or cats and wasted plenty of money on other remedies until i went to the vet and got advantage. It comes in small tubes u squeeze on the back of the animals neck once a month. You will have to deworm the animal after a run in with fleas as tape worms are very common with fleas. Good luck

I have a couple of options for you.. The first one I read in a book and it actually said ; to get fleas out of your house get a pair of rubber boots that go at least to the knee. Then take flypaper, sticky side down and attach to the boot. walk through the house and as the fleas jump up they will adhere to the flypaper.
this one is my own idea..
To keep fleas away, make sure they get the flu and fly away LOL sorry this just came to my mind. Well the one I have left

Keeping your pet in a flea free environment would work...but that usually isn't possible. So use a good once a month flea and tick product from the vet. Your pet counts on you to take care of them and will be a much healthier happier critter if you can keep these pets off!

The best way would be to use flea drops or a flea coller to prevent them.

If you have them in your home you must use a flea bahm (not sure of spelling). Bathe your pet in flea shampoo and 24 hrs. later apply a flea medicine that is applied between the shoulders of your pet. Go to your local pet store for the best one. Remove your pet from the area you are bahming of course. And yourself.
