The Nazis found a way to "kill two birds with one stone."

After WWI, the German economy was in tatters. The people were filled with despair, and a millenia-long hatred of Jews propagated by Church teachings.

Hitler hated Jews for the same reason most people have prejudice... he needed someone to blame other than himself for his failures in life (such as not getting into art school... those awful, evil Jewish professors!!!). There's also a whole series of writings about his abusive father, whom he also idolized. It couldn't be that his father was a bad person, so it must have been something tainting his blood..... Ah, Jews!!!

Hitler took his own hatred of Jews, combined it with the steady, slow burn of general anti-semitism and economic despair, and found in the Jewish people a large funding source by robbing them of property while soothing his hatred while robbing them of life.

Finding an external enemy during times of economic crisis is an excellent way of maintaining power, and has been used (mostly at a less than genocide extent) in every country in the world.

I'm not an expert on the holocaust, but I think Hitler wanted to rise to power and in order to do that, he needed something that would rally most of the people to stand behind him. One of the most powerful ways to do this is an "us or them" psychology. In this case it was mainly Hebrews and "gypsies" that became the "them".

Why was it allowed to continue for so long? I think it's like someone getting picked on in school. Most people don't want to get involved even though they know it's wrong because they risk drawing the attention of the bully onto themselves. Eventually, and hopefully, if the bully escalates his tormenting to an unbearable level, the authority figures intervene.

But what if when the bully first started tormenting the individual, everyone took a stand against the bully?

Attempting genocide is not new in the known history of the human race. We have it even today. Perhaps it's because there will always be people who feel so insecure, so inferior inside themselves that they only way they can make sense of their world is to try to dominate it. Fortunately, there isn't a permanent seat on the top of the world and time takes care of them.

I hope that helps answer your question.

If you researched it how come you don't know the answer. The reason had to do with Hitler trying to over rule many countries. He didn't believe in the Jewish people and wanted them all every single one of them annihilated. The holocaust stands for mass murder.

Adolph Hitler was trying to eradicate the Jews in Europe. That's the bottom line. He was anti-Semitic and had he won the war, there would be no Jews anywhere -- he would have had them all killed.
