If you work out and burn calories, you sweat
If you tan, you sweat.

So does sweating burn calories?
Interesting logic...
Yes, you burn the same amount resting and sweating as you would resting and not sweating. A few...but nothing too many.

I have a GREAT way to tan and lose calories that you might not have considered:

Put on shorts and running shoes and a t shirt and go for a run on a nice summer day.
3 things happen when you do this:
1) You get in better shape
2) You get tan
3) You burn calories

Pretty slick, eh??!!

If your laying out in the sun and perspiring you are burning off more calories then say, sitting in the Air conditioned house watching TV. If its extremely hot, you'll notice your heart beating faster in order to try to keep your body temperature steady and yes you are burning off more calories at this time. Certainly not a good weight loss plan.

You can burn calories doing a number of things, so yes. You burn calories just being awake and while you are asleep also. Whenever you are using energy you are burning calories.

If you do work, i.e., Roofing, lawn-mowing, or catching fish it's possible, may not be the parts you want to tan but lying on a towel burns very few calories!

Sure. You have to raise your heart rate to burn (more) calories. So drink some coffee, smoke a cigarette. Smoking pot increases the heartrate more than coffee and cigarettes and less than say, speed or ephedrine. Only problem is you might fall asleep and get burned, or get hungry and eat some chips and salsa ;)

Unless you are doing exercises in the sun, I don't think tanning will provide any significant calorie loss.

if you're just laying there tanning, then no...if you're exercising outside while you're getting a tan, then yes.

if just laying down doing nothing burned calories then teenagers wouldn't weigh more then 60 lbs,,,,my husband would be alot skinnier too!

hmmm...well you are basically going to be lying down somewhere and there is no possible way to burn calories when you're just laying somewhere....The only thing that you can burn though would be your skin....
