It boils at lower temperature because of the pressure of keeping the lid. That's why food cooks faster in a pressure cooker.

Since a watched pot never boils, with the lid on, of course it would boil faster!

yes it does because it's hard for it to evaporate,the steam bounces off the lid and heats the water much faster

that is what my mother always taught me...so I do it. I have never actually timed it. A dash of salt is also supposed to decrease boiling time.
