My mother in law just got a new puppy "CODY" a Dalmatian lab mix. He is a great dog and always enjoys my company. The weird thing is that whenever I come to visit as soon as I see him and pet him, he starts urinating wherever he is???? He doesn't do it for his owners when they come home from work, doesn't do it when my wife comes for a visit. I am the only person it happens to. Is he just excited to see me??

Yes, he's just very excited to see you. He loves you very much.

It is excitement. Hopefully he learns to control it but sometimes they can't help it.
My mom got a puppy from an Aunt of mine. Everytime my Aunt would visit (every 4-6 months) the dog would urinate as soon as she seen her. The dog did this for 14 years. I guess she just remembered my Aunt.

Maybe you could have someone take the dog outside when you are coming over. I would say to walk in and pick the dog up and straight outside but if he can't control it you may end up wet.

Good Luck!

my puppy does the same thing every time my boyfriend comes home, but not when I come home!! It is excitement and happiness, and they don't know how to control it yet. Don't bend over and pet the puppy, and don't show extreme happiness over seeing him until he has been outside first and then you can try it in a more relaxing setting. haha.... we have tried these too and it hasn't yet worked. So my boyfriend has tried ignoring him when he comes in even throgh all the jumping up on him wanting his attention, and then finally when he has settled down, he pets him... good luck! be happy that he's so happy :)

Yes, he is young and very happy and excited and being submissive to you. Whenever you come to see him, try to be as calm as possible in the beginning to give him a chance to calm down, and he will learn not to get so excited.

This happened to me too. My cousin has a West Highland Terrier that urinated every time I petted her, she got overexcited. Now whenever she sees me, I just pet her less. Or I just let her outside first. It works when coupled with discipline.

When you go there next time greet him calmly and as soon as he starts to urinate stop all contact with him. Look away, walk away. Do this several times and he should pick it up within the day. I had the same problem with one of my folks Chi's and I cured her in about 15 mins.

That is so sweet.. The little puppy LIKES you.. He/She gets so excited when it sees you that they cannot control their urine.. It will pass in time though.. It may still LOVE to see you but the urine will cease (in time)

Try ignoring the pup when you come in. Have someone take him out to relieve himself and then you can try paying attention to him. This is called submissive urination.

Yep, he's happy. When they're that small they haven't quite yet learned self-control. It will go away with time, and lots of patience.
