The application of engineering principles to the fields of biology and medicine, as in the development of aids or replacements for defective or missing body organs. Also called biomedical engineering .

Generally called as biomedical engineering it is developing replacements for body parts as well as designing new biological organisms which produce more food stuffs or which produce medicine. Eg. Artificial hand, insulin producing e coli.
