I'm writing a paper for school, and I need to know if there is a name for the ceremony that takes place before the traditional Vietnamese wedding. I know that a "Master of Ceremony" presents the couple, people bring gifts wrapped in red paper, and a large dinner is served. I can't find out though if there is a name for this pre-wedding event???

floydthefish: I'm not sure if it is the tea ceremony or not. I know that it happened a few weeks before the actual ceremony. I think it was when the parents are introduced and the bride is presented to the groom's family...?

I saw something that said it was called
"le an hoi". What does this mean?

The only equivalent English term I can think of is "engagement party/dinner/blessing."

Just want to confirm that you are not talking about the tea ceremony?
