I have volumes of family photos to distribute to family members for viewing. What portable method is available for viewing and easy downloading from a computer or CD?

I create picture CD's of family photos for distribution. (Internet distribution is way too time consuming.)

Use CD-R's. Buying in bulk you can get them for 15 cents apiece.

Use JPEG format so that the pics are viewable on TV's through most newer model DVD players. I have found TV a great way for a group to look at pictures.

Of course the CD is also viewable on computers.

Just organize the pics in a way that makes sense to you. Create a folder with everything you want on that CD. Then burn the CD with all the pics on it.

I use the picture Year/Numeric Month as the first part of the pic's file name. Then all the pics get viewed in date sequence automatically.

A 700 MB CD can hold 400-500 pics at high quality jpeg.

If you use higher quality/ bigger file size JPEG, the pics will also be printable if your family wishes.

Another alternative is to load your photos onto one of the internet photo sharing services. However, I have a concern about giving complete access to the sharing service. I believe that there is really no way to prevent theft of your images and unauthorized usage. (Despite what they say.)

People will appreciate your effort!

Have Fun!

I would copy pictures to Yahoo Photos. No limit on numbers.
Simply select and upload pictures and it will create nice online photo album for you. You can view the album later as slideshow and share it with all your friends and family

The best of all is it is FREE!
