I am loving the answers, and trust me this is not a question of race just population size.

I feel we should enforce the laws on the books and ounish law breakers, but have not done this and America is suffering greatly.

We must understand that many white Americans are concerned about what is happening. Many feel they are losing their European heritage to illiegals coming from non-European countries. With few, not mst, black Americans asking for reparations and other peopel groups asking for things, many whites are getting impatient and scared and worried.

Yes but no one asked me.

We have more people now than we can take care of -why add more?

Hey down there--we are not a nation of open arms forever--no one said that! When the boat is full-you can't add more all all will drown. Use your head.

Immigration should never be banned, only regulated. Whether people want to believe it or not, legal immigrants built this country and continue to have a positive effect on our economy and culture everyday. It is the illegal, non-regulated form of immigration that is having such an adverse effect on our country. And that isn't because those people don't work hard or are bad people, it is because since they technically don't exist within the framework of our society, they are not required nor given the opportunity to contribute (i.e. taxation, voting, etc.). Creating a system wherein temporary work permits and a legal form of large scale immigration is allowed would continue the benefit to our economy while mitigating the ill effects on our society.

It isn't a permanent answer, but it's a start. Shutting the borders down at this point would cripple our economy. You could go ahead and close the door on Canada though -- they bring nothing to the table.

I am a Canadian/American.... so does this mean I am of mixed race? Haha.....

Immigration is always an interesting question.... If you consider that many immigrants do jobs that Americans are unwilling (such as picking crops like the migrant workers do) or unable (think of the brain drain we are causing other countries -- look how many of our scientists, even teachers come from other countries) to do.
The real questions for Americans is not so much about allowing immigrants into the country -- but rather it is a fear of "them" changing "our" way of life. We are scared that we will lose out somehow because of immigrants.

I'm a 3rd generation American, and I think we should keep our immigration status open. The only problem is we have to enforce the policies we have in place. Back when my relatives came here, they joined the Army and served this country. I don't like the fact that people can just illegally sneak over here, steal work, and contribute nothing... and then justify it by saying if they didn't do it, it wouldn't get done. Say what? This is the US of f'n A... when stuff needs to get done, we get it done.

The one problem with banning immigration to this nation is the fact that we claim to be a nation of open arms. By closing immigration, we are accepting a doctrine of non-free principles. If we accept this doctrine, what is to stop us in future from decreeing that no one can ever enter the borders? This would deprive our republic of its just influence in teh world, enable the enemies of free institutions everywhere to taunt us as hypocrites, cause the real friends of freedom to doubt our sincerity, and insist that there is no right principle of action but self interest.

The problem with banning immigration is that we then become the biggest hypocrites in the world. This country has always been succesful because of its immigrant population. We are a country of immigrants. The great Melting Pot. Class Dimissed!

especially to French Canadians ! :) no we should not ban immigration, but we certainly should control it and enforce the laws regarding illegals. Being in Texas I have a front row view of the outright destruction of the health care system, the schools etc. The crime rate by illegals is way way over and above and other group of peoples.

But no, as long as the immigrants wish to follow our laws, I say welcome, regardless of where they are from.

Well, yes we could have a Nazi Germany with an all white perfect race too? What are you saying? Immigration is good for this country, we need diversity. You can't have a democracy without diversity....What makes you people feel you are so entitled? This land wasn't even ours to begin with, we stole it from the natives.

Not banned. but if they aren't going to go through legal channels to get here get them out of here.

Yes,our crime rate has gone through the roof because of the illegal mexicans in my state anyway. It is in the papers,on TV in hte police reports.I am not saying this to pick on one people just a fact. They come here for a free ride, not to do a job I won't.

I was actually turned down to do a field picking job because I am white girl not cheap labor from Mexico or Russia.
SHip 'em home and lock the borders.I don't care how much it costs at least THAT would be momey well spent instead of pissing it away to take care of them when we don't take care of our own.

Absolutely! The Native Americans who have the ONLY right on this land should've killed all the Europeans sneaking in the borders. You are ALL immigrants, never forget it!
