I don't believe in a god as a divine entity, but if you look at a god as a collective idea in the minds of people then it most certainly exists. I think a lot of people would feel lost and unguided without the teachings and support of like-minded people.

As to whether this hinders society; I'm not sure it does, people will always have their own ideas of what is morally right and wrong, it's just that some are lazier than others and don't want to have to think too much for themselves and would rather have someone else (religion) do the hard work for them. It also gives them an excuse to hurt others by shifting the blame onto their religion (although of course they wouldn't see it like that because their particular religion is the only true one).

End rant.

Why does God hinder society? Better yet how does God hinder society?

God never stopped anyone from doing anything. God gives all of us choices and we have to make decisions everyday to do certain things that will affect our lives as well as others lives.

Here is something, you can choose to kill or not to kill. That is a choice. I know what most people would say, but if you were protecting yourself and it came down to killing another human would you do just that?

You can love or not love. You can hate or not hate. See there are all sorts of choices we make everyday and if you think that God is some type of police officer stating you MUST do this or that then your view is not one that God wants you to see.

Remember God does not need you to praise Him. Your soul needs God. God wants to give you everything you need to live and live life fully. The world presents you with offers that is the difference an offer or a promise.

Heck, I would take the promise of a new life rather than an offer that will not last.

People take their gods very seriously these days, particularly in america. People are liable to get offended when you suggest doing away with them.

God doesn't hinder society - people do, hate does, politics and religion can and sometimes do. But gods very often inspire greatness and compassion in people, they give hope and help in times of need. Life is not easy. There are lots of things that can go wrong and there can be super long periods of very hard work.

We all get by in life with whatever help we can - our friends, our family, our faith and our recreations. What does it matter what others do - as long as you have your own peace in your mind and your heart? If we could all adopt this attitude we could only help society (with or without gods).

Peace!

I have to agree that the way the world is and the way that my life is at times this certainly seams the case. For example, most wars appear to be religeon related. But if you look more closely, these wars are more about cultural pride, politics and power, albeit that religeos herritage is their justification. Looking at the bible, God's real promise does not relate to land and establishing a dominant race or 'religion.' His plan is for peace with him and then peace with each other. That's why he sent his son Jesus to die on the cross so that we could have peace with God (because Jesus was punished for the things we do wrong we can have absolute forgiveness) and then from that comes peace with eachother as we recognise that under him, we're all equal and that out of gratitude to him, we will respect and love eachother.
I know there are other things that make trusting him difficult, the answer is not to look at other human beings' example, because we fail, but to look carefully at what he says in his word the bible, the answers are there. If you have more questions, I'll do my best to respond. David

Without God, people would be wild animals.
Just consider that the basic rules of law, the 10 Commandments come from the Bible. They are the basis of modern society.
Somebody said that there were 35 million laws to enforce 10 Commandments.
I think that you consider hinder to what other people would call rules of love and good behavior.
In spite of these rules, people still behave like wild animals. Now think what would happen without them.
This world would be the age of cavemen, but with guns

I don't know about God(s) but certainly the world would be a better place without religion and all the attempts from different faiths to convert everyone else. It is up to each individual what they choose to believe in. I don;t see why everyone who believes in a God(s) can't just accept that they have chosen that and other people are entitled to their own opinion because no one can be certain of who is right and who is wrong.

I think it wouldn't have made us happier, kinder. Clever people created god in order to make people be afraid of something and because of this not to be evil. Just imagine what will happen if one day people won't have to be kind in order to be sure that they'll continue their life in heaven. And after all for some people life has meaning only because of god.
It doesn't metter god exists or not. If someone believes that he does, this fact changes his behavior. And after all I believe that if a person wants something he has enough strenght to get it, and belief in this srenght is very important. Belief can be so strong that person may do some things that he don't believe he could do and thinks that it's miracle. It's vry interesting that preying is a proccess of selfhypnotizing and thats why it's so affective.

If you're thinking about Gods how can you an atheist. Why not just be indifferent to there being a God. The problem now is only having One God. Bush and Blair say they are fighting for God. The Jews and Muslim extremist are supposed to be fighting for the same God. The Catholics murdered 100's of thousand in the name of God. He must be laughing all the way to paradise.
In very olden times we had a God for every occasion. Bachus and Venus are my favourites.
I'm an indifferent Christian (only cos of where I was born)

Nay......
There would have been chaos and just disorder without the people believing the existence of God.Religion teaches us the right path to life(well most of them).History reveals that people that have weak or no belief in God tend to follow the wrong way and indulge in dishonest and immoral activities.
I am a Muslim and I can say that Islam religion gives me peace and a motive to live;It gives me satisfaction and guides me on the right path.Religion is an important part of ones life and one would be a lifeless soul with apparently no aim in life without spirituality and a strong belief in God Almighty.
Atheism have no set of rules or the guide for the right way of living and morality.Atheists take life as easy as anything and they believe they would not be held responsible or be questioned after they would die. Therefore most of them commit crime and indulge in immoral activities because of their view, they are free to do anything;they would not be held responsible for any deed they perform here in this world. So wouldn't a world of atheists be the world of disorder and wouldn't be worse.
JUST THINK OF IT!

Not necessarily, but God may indeed have been better without us. :) No, but seriously, God is apart of everything, including us and society. Humans set limitations and create hinderances which stiffle societies growth and wellness. We have to look inward and take personal inventory and stop blaming others and God for our problems.

Glory be to He who is the creator and facilitator of all things.

Hope this helps,

Jai :)
