and, if so, what is it like, and can you recommend a place to stay?

We live in Bangkok
and my language tutor is from there and has told me in much detail about this province. We were here during the flooding and my tutor's village wasn't effected. I suspect there is still plenty of tammachad to enjoy in this province.

I live not too far away - in Tak Province.. I have been to Phitsanoluk which is even closer, an ok Thai city but not outstanding for any reason. I am sorry that I do not have more direct info other than that they have had flooding problems recently which I doubt will affect your travel now... As to what it is like, I would expect nice people, farming people - as you would in most of rural Thailand...

Yep, before the flooding, Uttaradit was selling itself as a nature trekking holiday destination. However, I do not have any news as to the extent of the damages caused by the flood back in May. Apologies. This place is not very well visited, so I will not be able to help with accommodation recommendation. You can look at www.asiarooms.com for some hotels info there. Good luck. The recommendation I have may be to travel to Tak where the nature trails and beauty plus s few great waterfalls are located. And hilltribes too. You can check with Ken above, his home area.
