some folks feel that organized religion does not encompass the understanding that they feel they have of God. while organized religion has divided itself into doctrines, creeds and different viewpoints or interpretations, some folks have gone on their own search for the truth and chosen their own path based on what they've discovered is the truth in their own hearts. sometimes they find that one religion or another matches their own beliefs, sometimes they don't. it's that knowledge of truth in your own heart that makes a person spiritual rather than religious. some people can be both, some cannot. hope that helps.

I'm am more spiritual than religious. Why? Because if I belonged to a certain religion (lets just say I'm Christian for example) I would believe what was written down and only that. If I'm spiritual, I get to believe what I want no matter how wacky or senseless it may be.

Religion consists in swallowing dogma and following prescribed rituals. I guess spiritual means you can just do your own thing without worrying about whether God will get you if you don't dance to the official tune. In that sense, being spiritual sounds a lot more sane and healthy than being religious.

if u are spiritual then u pray and read the bible or what ever book they have for ur religion and go to the chapel-but if u are more religious then u go to church every week(which u should do no matter what) and follow the ten commandments but if u are spiritual u also do every thing u do for the religion part-its really the same thing but kinda confusing

Spiritual means you’re open to all possibilities.
Religious means you have a set belief system, and follow that only.
I’m spiritual, many people here consider themselves religious.

Being spiritual means that you have a spirit in you (say the spirit of God), but being religious means that you belong to a certain religion (say the christian religion).

They want to sleep in on Sundays. They are too lazy to go to church or follow any specific guidelines. Rather than sound like some type of heathen, they act as though they are spiritual, when they have no idea what that means except that they like trees and sunsets or something similar.

If you are spiritual but not religious you are not confined to one religious belief system, but hold many values of one or more religions into account.

One whose chief concern is religion is more occupied with making certain that their life is governed by the tenets and laws of that religion.
One whose chief concern is spirituality is more occupied with making sure that they do their level best to do whatever it is that they do the way their God would do it if their God was the one doing it.
The true believer knows that BOTH are necessary for the fullest living of that life, and do not hesitate to enter into all the rites of the religion and learn all they can about their God through study, prayer and observation of those whose lives are obviously lived according to the way they think their God would live.

religous doesn't always mean spiritual. organized religion is big on show, repetition, rituals. when Jesus came he taught that many churches were doomed because they were all talk and no action. they go through the motions of church rituals, then leave and behave badly in daily life. we are not to judge- oh that family is trashy and on welfare- we're to love everyone.if you see a family having hard times you quietly leave food at their door, or offer them friendship, pray for them not gossip. Jesus cares about our thoghts and actions, thats spiritual. religion is rituals, even devil worshippers have church! rituals. PLEASE find a bible, it should have a reference. PLEASE READ WHAT JESUS SAID ABOUT RELIGION>matthew 6 and 7 also the first few chapters of revelatins are Jesus's words to different churches.much can be understood about the difference of religion and spirituality from there. hope this helps!
