Well the places the other answerers put were pretty good. All those places have a very city feel. Waikiki is like that very big city like. But if you want a more cultural place i'd say Polynesian Cultural Center. Its not in Waikiki but it is like an hour or something away from Waikiki. It is awesome if you want a taste of polynesia.

At night you can't beat hanging out on Kalakaua Ave. Street performers, shopping, food, people, Waikiki beach. You never know what you'll see while you're there.

Go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. It's cheap to get in ($5/person I think) and you can rent snorkel gear their for $9 a person. Take the bus rather than booking through your hotel and you'll save money.

The bus system is great. It's $2/person or you can buy a pass at any ABC store (it's like a convenience store and they're everywhere) for around $20. They even have an 800 number if you need help figuring out what bus to take. The bus along Ala Moana Blvd/Kalakaua Ave run every 5-10 minutes so you're never waiting very long.

Every Friday night the Hilton Hawaiian Village has a fireworks display. It's best seen on the Honolulu end of Waikiki rather than the Diamond Head end. Try watching it from Ala Moana park or shopping center.

Waikiki has a concentration of Hotels and tourists that you can't find anywhere else in Honolulu and Hawaii. There are many people at the beaches and on the Sidewalks. You can try http://travel.yahoo.com and http://www.hawaiiactivities.com for good places to go. Some popular tourist attractions are: The Polynesian Cultural Center, Haunama Bay, Pearl Harbor, etc..

Waikiki is just like any big city. Depending on your tastes, there are plenty of things to do.

For food, don't miss Nick's Fish market.

Depending on your tastes in music and nightlife, there are usually some good bars/nightclubs. Moast use standard djs, but if you pick up one of the city guide magazines you can find a place that plays the type of music you enjoy.

There are the major tourist attractions: Hilo Hatties (Aloha shirts) and Maui Divers (coral and Hawiian theme jewelry).

There is, of course, the Hard Rock cafe. Don't expect much in the way of live shows, Hard Rock Maui has more of an offering.

If you are looking for some good shoping, try King's Market, one block north of Waikiki beach (due north of the statue of Duke).

As I mentioned earlier, there are plenty of city guides available from boxed located every block. You can also contact a variety of activity directors at almost every hotel.

Have fun!

Waikiki is great!!! As you walk along the main street (Kalakaua), you see mimes. You would think that they are statues, and then they start moving!! It is really a treat!!
There is the largest indoor aquarium in the world located at the Pacific Beach Hotel (on the corners of Liliuokalani and Kalakaua). It is on three floors, and three restaurants!! The Oceanarium Restaurant in the Oceanarium Tower has the best breakfasts, and you can view all diffrent species of fish!!
Buy a four day Discovery passport for the bus!! you can buy it at any ABC store for $20.00

I think you should learn to surf! It is fun and so long as you get lessons, wear a rashguard and plenty of sunscreen, you will enjoy it!
