Seems to make many Christians angry, why do they answer them? Wouldn’t turning the other cheek come into a play here? It rages with my age old argument that if offends your eyes avert them..So why do you answer?

I am okay with it being fun or a way of spreading the message; I just don’t agree with the folks who seem to get really irate, I mean check out some of the answers to this question alone. Why bother answering. If you want 2 pts there are like millions of other questions to ask to get them…

I agree in this debate we can be no better, but I don’t answer questions of people who are really troubled or who are just reaching out to their fellow Christians in their time of need. That is just cruel. I tend to go after the questions asked by pious, holier than thou folks…

RE: Turn the other cheek. I am talking philosophically. I would not turn the other cheek about crimes or well anything…it’s not my rule.

I know what you mean. And the entire time they are doing it, they are whining about the answers they receive from atheists and other non's. Yet they feel it's perfectly alright for them to continue on their way of doing the exact same thing. *Sigh*

Does "turning the other cheek" mean Christians should remain silent when others communicate something Christians disagree with? Why limit the freedom of speech from a whole segment of the world's population?
If you insult me (as a Christian) personally, then I will turn the other cheek. This is what Jesus meant in the original context of His teaching this point. If you claim there is no God, what would my silence have to do with turning the other cheek?
If Christians lash out and respond to an insult with an insult of their own, then they are not following Christ's teaching. If they remain silent when others speak things that are not true about God, Christianity, life, etc., then they are also not following Christ's teaching because He stood up for what was true too.

I am a Christian i do not get angry it is sad to see a world full of lost people blindly walking over a cliff were they have no idea whats waiting for them when they hit bottom i would think by answering there questions i would be helping them if they believe there is no God or after life why are they in the religious and spiritual section could it be Satan in them trying to taunt the Christians trying to step on there faith Satan greatest trick is to convince people he doesn't exist so if they were truly Atheist they would avoid this section unless they are truly wanting to know God

Very good point! I don't have an answer for you, but I was wondering this myself. I was raised Catholic, but now....although I don't really call myself an Atheist, I don't believe in any religion. But when I did go to church and CCD classes, I learned God loves everyone because we are all his children. So I cannot understand why some Christians go around savagely insulting everyone! For one thing, I was under the impression it was a sin, and another, it's not going to make people convert when you piss them off!!! This is not what Jesus taught at all.....otherwise when he was on the cross, he would have been spewing all kinds of obscenities at the Jews for what they were doing! LOL

A lot of Christians can be insecure about questions from Atheist because the core of the question asked hurt them. I am a Christian and I am fully aware of the questions from Atheists. I answer some, I can't answer others. I love God and he has made himself known to me because I sought the answers.
Christians can get offended because most think when an Atheist asks questions thy are not seeking answers they're just trying to make them angry.
My motto, if you can ask, I will try my best to answer. Win or lose.

Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angery and sin not... Mathew5:22 He that is nagry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of hell fire. Just for the fun of it read in Mark chapter 11 verses 12 thru 22 to read about when Jesus got angry.

i answer because i welcome discussion. my faith tells me that i am correct, or at least on the right track, but there is always the chance that i am a brainwashed pawn of the religious right.
by taking into account the questions and statements of the non believer, i am able to grow in my faith when i tackle the issue from a logical point of view.
there is no need to flame anybody from either side. while i wish everybody would make it to our Heavenly Father, i have to accept that there are those who will not, because of their faith.
it is not for me to judge them, but rather pray for them. i do not preach to them, i dont say "because the bible says so" or any such rhetoric.
when i come to an issue that i cannot explain, then i do have to take it on faith....and ask a biblical scholar or do more research.
just because something offends you, does not immediately make it wrong, it is the method of discussion that becomes obscene when the flaming starts.

Would you avert your eyes and deny what they have seen if you witnessed a child being molested and not report it? You can't just live in your own little shell and deny what is around you.

Are you an only child? Have you ever had a brother or sister annoy you? Like when your sibling just wanted to annoy you for no reason by poking you over and over? Could you have just sat there and let them do it until they get bored?
The questions on here are the same way. People could just ignore them, but it is much easier to yell, "STOP!".

The naive part of me hopes questions of religion and spirituality are asked and answered in the spirit of learning. Some people don't want to engage in a conversation with people of differing beliefs because they really don't want to grow and learn. Some do to show superiority. Some just want to annoy and hurt.
Too many people don't want to think.
