Why do Christians choose to attend Church ceremonies today? I thought Sunday was God’s day off? I mean he works really hard during the week shouldn’t this be the day that he rests? Wouldn’t having to be at every Church, listening to all those sermons be taxing?

God is retired. He hasn't worked a day since he impregnated that adulterous woman to father his illegitimate child. No one has heard from him since he suffocated his illegitimate child on the cross.

You write as if God is human. If God took a day off, then the entire universe would fly apart. He is the creator and sustainer of all. He never gets tired and he is never taxed by humans. His nature is so far beyond ours that we cannot possibly imagine his infinite capabilities. The Sabbath has not changed---it is still Saturday. Christians celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday because that is the day that Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus loves you.

Christians are followers of Jesus Christ, and in the Bible there are stories of His going to the synagogue with the other Jews. Apparently the tradition of attending church during this "day off" is a normal custom among God's people. Even the Jews before Christ used to cease their labor on the "sabbath" to keep it holy.

Oh, and I go to church because I want to, not because I have to. The people there are more like family than my own family of origin.

No, God does not have a day off. He works full time and does not need to rest. However, he created the 7th day, which is Saturday, so we could all spend more time in spiritual things and communion with him. Constantine, a mere human being, decided to change what God has established since the very beginning. He changed the 7th day to 1st day, based on the belief that we should worship God on the day Christ resucitated. That was Constantine's personal belief and made it mandatory.
Bottom line, if you reallly want to obey God, Worship on Saturdays.

It was to be a day off for everyone...no just God. What is even more interesting is when it was originally Saturday and got Changed to Sunday in the Roman empire under the ruler Constantine...the christian ruler. It was to give us a day for rest, and to give God worship. Listening to people worship you and praise you I guess could be taxing, but since your talking about God the infanant, mighty, and supreme being....it probably isn't. Remember he is everywhere at all times and can hear everyone. I couldn't even imagine how he does it....its just God.

It's supposed to be a day God rests. I think since people got into the habit of going to church on Sundays, he switched his day off to Tuesday or Thursday when it's not so busy. (Sorry, just trying to be funny.)

LOL - that's why we go to church on Sundays - it's His day off and He has the time to listen to our praise of Him, see that we're trying to learn all we can, and concentrating our prayers. We are honoring all that He has done for us throughout the week.

He told us to honor the sabbath and keep it holy. This is the way that we do that.

God doesn't need vacations but He does like to spend a whole day with you. But the Bible indicates the seventh day is the sabbath, not Sunday.

reply to hellhammer's answer... NO WHERE in the bible does it tell you to "go to" church! "where any two or more are gathered" is considered to be a place of worship, which could mean obviously the privacy of your own home! it was organized religion and their need for power, control AND MONEY to back their power and control that made "church" a building and not a place within ones heart!

On the last ""day"" -HE rested.
NOT rest in the way of tired from work.

REST, like in the musical REST -- HE stopped for a while.
